A closer reading reveals 'Fetch Multiple Posts' which could help in this regard. I still think an actual feed would be better than a procedure call over HTTP.

Presumably the spec doesn't preclude having feeds, which could be discoverable and consumed in well-established ways that go beyond Tent? It would be great to provide the opportunity to sign a request for any resource, though, so that an app could sign a request for a feed and see any restricted content that they had permission to consume.

Exactly... this seems like it could be a lot simpler by not re-inventing activitystream items in general.

There is also 'Fetch Post Feed' which is sort of a feed, but re-invented JSON rather than a regular old feed of some existing standard.

It's not currently clear enough in the docs, but there is /posts which is a feed of Tent posts.
