So after toying around with Ubuntu 14.04, i found some problems that would affect the usage experience:

  • While installing packages, some of them would cause errors about upstart then fails unless the postinst file is removed

  • And also when Installing some packages, it would attempt to create device nodes in /dev usually the package fuse when i install XFCE

  • Pretty much it needs to preload libdisableselinux.so library to fix most problems (in my case when logging in with su, i got errors)

And if this will be added, proot-distro should have the -L flag on proot enabled, so far i only tested this flag on my device

Centos 7 - I never tried it and it doesn't have tarball for arm64 yet, but it can be possible to use 32-bit one if the Device is 64-bit, although there will be problems when running it though

If these suite flavors would be added, someone will have to verify it if it works properly (especially on arm64), in my case i have to go further to fix such problems, otherwise we can only stick to newer distros instead or manually set it up on their own with $PREFIX/etc/proot-distro

Android does not play nicely when running older distros though so pretty much it needs some fixes

@truboxl If there is a docker image exist for it, that's would be enough.

Ubuntu 14.04 may not be added i think, i have problems running Ubuntu 14.04 (dpkg fails if symlink has changed size)

is it possible to add distro manually without waiting the developer to add it,

Yes, by configuring config files in $PREFIX/etx/proot-distro, you will see the distro configs (script files),

But it's recommended to copy them first

Have you tried to add the -L flag for proot during the launch of Ubuntu 14? In theory, this should fix problomes with dpkg that you have.

-L Correct the size returned from lstat for symbolic links.

I need centos 7

IMHO, this makes no sense, support for CentOS 7 will soon end this year, and Ubuntu 14 should not be said at all, it has not been supported for a long time, that is, it does not receive updates

@ZhymabekRoman Yes, it does work fine when -L flag is used (in my case)

Probably not recommend to add it (does not supported by canonical anymore) but with the -L option works fine but except it's not enabled by proot-distro

Ubuntu 14.04 can be added as long if it's verified to work on some devices (Ubuntu 14.04 can be nostalgic though)

I intend to create a new Issue but I think everyone agrees that Rocky Linux has replaced CentOS LTS

Only aarch64 and x86_64 are supported and released at the moment (so can't check the last checkbox in the new Issue page)

I am not quite sure where is their Root file system archive URL though

Closing since distributions requesting are outdated. newer ones must be requested instead
