I'm fine with option 2. I don't think any plugins rely on that event. Maybe smd_lately, but that's ancient anyway and easily patched if it does.
Are there any core links like eLink or sLink that jump to the log panel for filtering? I don't think there are, so it should be pretty safe to just change the event name now.
If we go with this, any preference for the new event name?

+1 for option 2.
If you like, I would be happy to look at this issue and make a pull request. I encounter it in a real-world situation, so the fix solves my own needs.

As a by-product, I have added the word 'lore' to my working knowledge of the English language, hoping that it does not have a pejorative connotation in constellations of which I am unaware.
