was python3-smbus installed though? if it was, then try running your script using python3 instead.

you must import drivers (the drivers/ dir in the repo and its contents) to use the lcd method I mentioned before. easiest way to do so is to put drivers/ on the same dir as your script and then just import using import drivers, per my previous example.
