I am using this with the 5.3.2 puppet gem in a non-root environment and it works just fine for me. I have testing installing both a package and a cask.

I do not know if this is a problem with puppet 5 or with the version of ruby I am running (2.5.1), but nothing was being returned from the version checks. I ended up having to change the way that brew list was being called.

@warrenmelnick oh, that's really odd! Do you have any output from the original failure? Looks like you just dodged the execute wrapper on running brew -- all that should really do is disable using a brew owned by a different user and disable in-bundler support. Clearly the execute wrapper has a downside I don't know about, though!
@genebean thanks for the report. Most likely, this package should continue working fine with puppet 5... but I should add it to the test matrix and make sure it shows as compatible in the Forge.

Got the matrix testing in, we seem to have been good against Puppet 5, but now the metadata will show that (as of v1.8.2). It was also a good opportunity to officially drop Puppet 3 support...

After more testing, it was the version of Ruby and not puppet that was
affected. What was happening was that there was not return at all -
completely blank regardless of whether a package was installed or not.
