Okay, I see. This is probably only an issue when searching for English words. The add-on works best for Chinese->English. If you enable show exact matches only Anki shouldn't freeze. I'll try to fix it.
I just checked and looks like you have to search for 'to eat' to find 吃
from cc-cedict-for-anki.

Thanks for letting me know. Could you tell me which words you looked up/tried to look up so I could try to reproduce the bug?

First I tried 'hello' which worked.
then I tried 'eat' which made it freeze
