This should help https://github.com/socketio/socket.io-client/blob/master/test/support/env.js
from breko-hub.
Nope, socket connections are handled outside of it
blocks, and even outside of afterEach
blocks too! So asserting on them (even when deferring the assertion) is a real pain to do :/
There's lots of funky behaviour too, such as closing connections in an after
block, just hangs, but closing in an afterEach
block will close before the connection
events are fired.
Very frustrating, I'll look more into spying on the connections at each end.
Really don't want to test the internals of how sockets are wired up in breko-hub (with redux-via) but it's starting to look like there's no good alternative.

can assert based on dom updates and messages submitted:
const socketListeners = {}
io.Socket.prototype.on = (event, cb) => {
socketListeners[event] = cb
}
io.Socket.prototype.emit = sinon.spy()
stubbing out the prototype methods for tests in assertions.
BOOM!
