Hey guys,
sorry for the delay here - been crazy busy lately
indeed it's for minimizing db usage (I pay for hastebin out of pocket), and also hastebin was designed more for disposable hastes (although you can definitely set it up to work differently yourself using one of the db adapters and corresponding settings)
I'll see what I can do to increase the time a bit @FichteFoll - just want to make sure I can keep the service fast, without ads, and not too expensive to run!

Hmm, could be I'm going to look into it more
I just fixed the about issue by hand - so that's maybe more coincidence :)

I'm guessing the intention it's to be frugal about their db usage, plus to have a trash cleaner.
I really like the idea of the pastes being somewhat disposable, I only use haste when I'm chatting with co-workers or friends. But It would be pretty cool to have an option to register as user, just to have a CRUD of pastes and being able to set a larger lifespan to use it in sites like stackoverflow, or any issue tracker platform.
I know that part of the beauty of this service it's its simplicity, maybe adding that layer it's too much against the grain of the project, but it could give it a wider range of uses.

Could you perhaps adjust the promised uptime of pastes in about.md
to the value it currently is?
from haste-server.
production now uses a postgres backing, so keys should no longer fall off before the 30 days
thanks!

Very nice!
Do they expire 30days after creation or after the last view, as said in the readme?
from haste-server.
30 days from last view

I just had mine disappear in less than 12 hours. I wasn't aware that they'd disappear, but this was considerably faster than 30 days or even a full 24 hours. I was using it for a github issue, the other participants wouldn't have neccessarily had enough time to view it with such a short time span :(

Do you mind sharing the link of one that disappeared in 12 hours?

@seejohnrun I believe it was: http://hastebin.com/enojahujev.cs OpenCL code.

It could be something wrong on my end. I tested on FireFox on my desktop and Chrome on my Android phone. http://hastebin.com/about.md is blank for me as well.

Weird
http://hastebin.com/enojahujev.cs I can see from a Desktop browser (Chrome)
so I'm thinking this may be a mobile-only issue
Can you confirm you can see it as well?
(the about issue is a separate one, I have on my list to fix)

It's working now. I didn't verify through anyone else if the link was broken when I reported it, just on several browsers and systems(desktop and mobile). Seems it might have been a DNS issue or something? about.md is working fine as well now.

@seejohnrun Is there any way I can recover a deleted paste? (I have the link)

@0SirAwesome sorry, I can't :(

RIP oh well

Don't like disappearing of pastes either, most of the forums I visit and they have a hastebin link, the content is gone, so I want to suggest people to start using some other good service like pastefs.com where content stays for long, I can see some 4 year old content still available on pastefs

And 3 years later the entire pastefs.com is gone 😄
