Fast tests of jpegminit and tinypng shows that they use lossy optimisation (try compare
from image_magick).
So phrase «while keeping their original quality» on jpegminit is just not true (loss of quality is visible when you view images in actual size).
Tinypng clearly states that they convert pngs to indexed ones.
image_optim can already do lossy optimizations of jpegs, so if you use image_optim --jpegoptim-max-quality 90
on images from PhotKing.zip (from jpegminit) you will get result similrar to provided. And you can decrease maximum quality even more.
For pngs not yet, image_optim can optimise them only losslessly, so new workers should be introduced.

Ah… so image_optim is lossless by default (which makes sense) but can do lossy, too, with JPGs. Apparently, I missed that flag, but I see it now.
Thanks for the reply!
