PHP 5.2.x: failed to open stream: Too many open files about travis-cookbooks HOT 6 CLOSED

There must be some limit on open file handles that is too low by default on 5.2. @ceeram, do you know what it may be?

Not really, all i could find about this error were a few bug tickets on php, perhaps you find somethign usefull there:

also google found me this:
"open /etc/system as root and makie changes to rlim_fd_cur and rlim_fd_max."

and this:
"You need to increase ulimit -n for the webserver"

ulimit seems to be a bit helpfull, raising it will still cause the error, but after running more tests:
