@skinsvideos21 are you by chance passing a quoted string to the url? What versions of node/mongoose/mongo are you running?

As far as I can tell, the string is unquoted. Here is an example:
localhost:3000/mySchema/5844b61a7f0c31391a7b5581

I added to the top of this issue post the versions for each component as you request.

There is a workaround to the issue, as one Stack Overflow member points out, by using the https://www.npmjs.com/package/uuid library to generate "_id" values: http://stackoverflow.com/a/41474798/1744084

@skinsvideos21 sure, you can do that, however this lib is supposed to work without changing the default mongo _ids. It seems like an issue with implementation or usage, because this library is heavily tested, as are other applications I develop on top of this.

If you've found a satisfactory fix for the issues, then I will close this.

For future reference, this is the issue: Automattic/mongoose#4867

Pining mongoose @ 4.7.2 will fix the issue while we have node 4 support.
