@Schmiddiii response Setting your player in the settings to flatpak run org.videolan.VLC should probably suffice. Though untested.

Just noticed there is a double-/ in the URL for the played video. Please figure out if that matters by running the following:
flatpak run org.videolan.VLC https://www.youtube.com//watch?v=SZbuVOkylYc
flatpak run org.videolan.VLC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZbuVOkylYc
If the second one works and the first does not, this is my issue I will have to fix. If both don't work, something is weird with VLC.

Adding
flatpak run io.mpv.Mpv
to preferences → player fixed this issue
