I don't see why not, but actually what you probably want to do is add Viewport to another component. DesktopWindow is the parent component, and Viewport does most of the work.

Thanks for the response. At first I thought Viewport always had the toolbar but found how to turn it off. I can't add the Viewport directly to another component, since it's a JFrame, but adding its content pane produced the desired result. It does involve the Viewport frame popping up, stealing its components, and then setting it not visible.
Another stumbling point is accessing the objects. Constructing a Viewport directly doesn't seem feasible since CConn needs VncViewer. To test, I added a way to access CConn from VncViewer and got the Viewport from CConn. CConn, in most places, could use a generic Container versus the VncViewer type. Maybe it could be refactored some to allow any container to be passed in?
Edit: I made some updates that allow you to pass a container into VncViewer(). It's more of a proof of concept at this point.

I have customers who are doing similar things (embedding Viewport into their own components), so something similar to your approach might be useful in the long term. Keep me posted if you get it past the proof-of-concept stage.

Closing as WNF, because the customer who might have had a need for this no longer does. Thus, it's not something that will likely happen without specific project funding or code contributions.
