Max Turgeon

I am a data scientist working for Tesera Systems.

I also hold an adjunct position in the department of Statistics at the University of Manitoba. My research focuses on dimension reduction methods for complex high-dimensional data, with a special interest for computationally and statistically efficient methods. You can find the code repositories for some of our projects here on Github.

My main computational projects are R packages:

  • casebase for fitting smooth parametric hazards using case-base sampling.
  • biomasscan for estimating the above-ground biomass in individual trees using Canadian allometric equations.
  • pcev implements Principal Component of Explained Variance, a dimension reduction method coupled with a hypothesis-testing framework for two multivariate datasets.
  • rootWishart uses arbitrary-precision linear algebra to compute the distribution of the largest root of single and double Wishart problems.

3d-forest-type-map icon 3d-forest-type-map

In this repo, you will learn how to create wonderful 3D forest-type maps with rayshader in R. We will create a 3D elevation mapped overlayed with an image of forest-type values derived from the Copernicus Global Land Cover project, which provides a harmonized and high-resolution classification and mapping of land cover types across the globe.
