I propose to stick with MIT license for our package because it is simple to understand and it allows users to distribute the closed source package for their use. What do you guys think?

I definitely agree. Its simplicity and lesser restrictions are reasons enough for us to use MIT license

I just noticed that MIT license actually allows commercial usage. Do you feel comfortable with that? Let's discuss!

Hi @aimee0317, that is actually a very interesting observation and thank you for bringing that to light. I personally don't have any issue with the software being sold, so along as they comply with the rest of the license and copyright conditions. Commercial use can be seen in many different forms, and so it would be interesting to see how our package can be used for financial gain.

I did some research on different licenses and agree with @Vikiano @adrianne-l because we are not in a community, it does not make sense for us to use a community-preferred license. Since our package is created in this course for educational purpose, it might not make sense to use GNU GPLv3 either. Please refer to this page for detailed info on different licenses. https://choosealicense.com/ I think we should keep MIT for now.

@aimee0317 @Arushi282 It would be flattering to be used in commercial context and I support Arushi's view on this.

Great discussion here on commercial usage! I think the only other license that might make sense is this copyleft license https://choosealicense.com/licenses/gpl-3.0/, but it's more restrictive according to this article https://www.whitesourcesoftware.com/resources/blog/top-10-gpl-license-questions-answered/. If you do not mind commercial usage, I think we will use MIT!

Interesting discussion so far. In terms of trade-off between commercial usage, restrictiveness, and community preference, MIT takes the lead for this package. So, we should use MIT!
