did you install all the header files?

I'm not sure what the dependencies are, so I haven't installed any other headers.

Did anyone figure this one out? I'm having the same issue installing python via pythonbrew on Ubuntu 12.04 on Amazon EC2. It hangs at the same spot as mentioned above. I've installed dependencies with apt-get build-dep python2.7 and I've tried installing both python2.6.5 and python 2.7, but no luck.

Just an update... it seems like it's probably an issue with my instance being a t1.micro. I started up an m1.small and didn't have the issue. Any workarounds to make this work on a t1.micro instance?

I got stuck here as well when it had worked for me before. I found that the AMI had changed at some point when using the easy instance builder menu. If you specify ami-0d153248 (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit) on a t1.micro and then set up the prereqs then try to build Python, everything works fine. Does that help you?
