If your question is; can I use a UUID as my primary key (always residing on _id in mongodb) in a mongodb collection, then yes. It's as simple as saving your documents with { _id: uuid }.
If your asking whether you can extract the timestamp, then I think the answer is no. From Wikipedia: "Version 4 UUIDs use a scheme relying only on random numbers."
And you cannot sort by UUID either - it will be random, but always the same order.
