That actually dovetails nicely with another aspect I was considering (but didn't mention to keep topics seperate): Maybe tracking progress more statefully between karma checks. But that got me looking into non-contiguous progress (I find myself often filling in/answering two three koans at a time, but skip one knowing I'll go back to it.) and down that rabbit-hole.
Anyway, it would be nice to see something like "You've taken 3 more steps towards enlightenment".
But I figure I should actually progress a bit more myself.

This is a great idea! I'm not sure how to go about it, though. It seems pretty simple overall, but when I went ahead and tried it, I realised that it wouldn't... really work. Most of the individual topics are actually 1 or at most 2-3 pips on the overall progress bar in any case, so it ends up just looking... weird.
I'm thinking instead we could generate a second progress bar representing progress in the current topic and display that as well as the overall progress bar, perhaps?
