Regarding brew vs macports, I guess the install script could take an optional brew or port argument?

One thought I had about virtualenvs:
I certainly think that we should use virtualenvs to make our projects portable, but it might be a bit much to (for example) make our ETA install script automatically setup a virtualenv whenever any third-party installs ETA. If a third-party prefers to work from an existing Python installation on their machine, it should be their prerogative, right?
This is related to our discussions on Python 2/3 cross-compatibility- if we're going to force users to install a virtualenv, then might as well force them to use either Python 2 or 3 specifically, right? Since they're already being forced to develop in our sandbox.

I agree about this. Flexibility is necessary. Perhaps even just
instructions on how to do this...or best practices.

@chrisstauffer can you add a section to the eta README describing instructions/best practices for setting up a virtualenv for ETA? You could add this to the install branch since it’s related to the existing pull request
