I do not think it would as well -- the drawback of a types.db with garbage is low... Personally I distribute a custom types.db with all the types I use everywhere. Using puppet resources to manage type by type consume resources on the puppet side, increase compilation time, catalog size, execution time, puppetdb server workload for little advantage
