That looks like a good idea to me but you didn't have to change it to ES5, we have babel as a dependency anyway so you can just add a task in package.json that will build it, without affecting the main codebase.

@reverland, the vue repo itself has dist folder that has everything bundled and is there before npm publish so you could do the same with this repo so we have a ES5 bundle in dist folder without affecting the source itself.

@reverland, I think you can do a PR for that, looks ok but I guess you should do a separate PR for unused var and another one for the npm run build
