Walking through what happens during a typical fetch:

fetch() -> set() -> change() -> model.change event handler -> onModelChange()

Are the particular cases where you aren't seeing the behavior you want?

It was a while ago but I think the issue was that if you are expecting the view to be rendered strictly because of a setModel call - it will not actually happen if the model does not require a fetch (if it's already populated).

These conditions are no longer true. The view will render even if the model is already populated, or when it is used as a child view, or passed to setView()
