Pardon for long reply. Does the materials within the project you are trying to netrender contain textures and if yes, have you bundled them within the .blend file?

Just did a quick check. Master branch works on 2.79b - at least when master and slave is on MSW.

Can you please check again?

• This time also start up slave from terminal so slave log messages can be also seen.
• For a test please set Path for master somewhere else than /tmp, somewhere in userland to existing directory (select the dir via GUI button). No spaces in path.
• Same for slave - set Path in GUI to some existing dir somewhere in userland.
