Use 7 chars of GitHub SHA in tag name about docker-build-with-cache-action HOT 4 CLOSED

I have found a workaround here.

It consists of creating output with an additional step and using that named output later on:

jobs:
  my-job:
    runs-on: ubuntu-18.04

    - name: Get short SHA
      id: slug
      run: echo "::set-output name=sha7::$(echo ${GITHUB_SHA} | cut -c1-7)"

    - uses: whoan/docker-build-with-cache-action@v5
      with:
        image_name: my-image
        image_tag: "latest,foo-{{ steps.slug.outputs.sha7 }}"

I think this workaround is valid enough for this issue to be resolved. But I'll leave that decision up to you.

You are missing a $ on your workaround code.
image_tag: "latest,foo-${{ steps.slug.outputs.sha7 }}"

Hi @riker09 . I am glad you found the workaround. I would have to expand twice with eval to use the env approach.

Do you still think it would be nice to have such a feature? I think your workaround is more flexible.
