Not entirely true I believe: a lot of extensions can access file://, e.g. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/webpage-screenshot-captur/ckibcdccnfeookdmbahgiakhnjcddpki?hl=en after you give them access in chrome://extensions. Please take another look at how to make this possible, since it would be a really nice feature for people like me designing something quick and sharing the result with a friend/colleague/... and the extension I linked to just sucks :/

Also: http://developer.chrome.com/extensions/extension.html#method-isAllowedFileSchemeAccess though I don't know how/why that checkbox doesn't appear for all extensions.

It's possible in code (I have a separate zip for it). When I went to upload on the chrome store it said it wasn't allowed.

BTW don't use that zip if you want to connect it to imgur because it has an old queuing system.

I tried using that zip, but even without "connecting to imgur" it doesn't work. How do other extension get into the chrome store and allow file:// access? Is it possible to provide a branch with file:// support which people like me can use?

EDIT: Nevermind, it was my internet connection playing funny. Normal upload works using that zip. Thanks!
