consider using more advanced file formats which are supported by https://github.com/mholt/archiver;
how about
zstd - https://github.com/facebook/zstd
or
Snappy? - https://github.com/google/snappy

from aemc.

use a separate archive file for each compressed instance folder;

file name convention [instance.ID]-[aem version?]-[yyyyhhmmss].aem.i.zst (read as aem instance zstd compressed)
since instance backup task will require instance running then aem version reading will be easy`

maybe task could also work with aem instance already down then aem version will be needed to be supplemented manually or whole suffix could be then set manually from flag --suffix or --version or --name sth like that
