So basically, you never want to run into into a situation of IndexOutOfRange. This basically means that your consumer is so far behind, the last event you processed is not available anymore. This basically means a data loss situation.
The current implementation kind of ignores this, and initialized a new partition consumer that will start at the oldest offset. This is bad, and on top of that this behavior, is implemented in a shitty way by just replacing the current partition consumer with a new one.
My preferred solution is to just return an error, and let the user fix the problem (e.g. by resetting the offsets in Zookeeper.

Going to close this. The consumer code I just merged will just quit when this happens. It's your responsibility to clean up Zookeeper in that case.
