Daniel Weeks' Portfolio

I'm a full stack web developer and have been with Rocket Mortgage since June 2021. I love being a software engineer and I'm proud to call Rocket Mortgage my employer! I started my programming journey in 2003 and have been accumulating knowledge ever since.

  • Philosophy

I enjoy writing beautiful and elegant code that is at the core efficient, optomized, and readable. I take pride in what I write and how it performs. Modern servers can run anything you throw at them, but a segment of code that can be optimized to achieve 1ms faster times may seem small until it needs to be run a million times. In the end though, the code still needs to be readable in order to be maintainable by future engineers. I'm constantly looking for improvements which keeps me on my toes and finding issues that we didn't even know about.

My Previous Journey

  • ⚓ US Navy (11/2010 - 01/2021)

I spent 10 years in the Navy as an Nuclear Electrical Operator where I learned all about nuclear power plants and how they work and operate. I have lots of skills I built in strict work controls, procedures, and maintenance. As well as stringent and consistent testing of knowledge in these areas. I worked in and lead teams on smaller projects as well as greater missions. I was relied upon to be able to respond quickly and effieciently in critical failing emergencies to restore operations to normal conditions, this could have been from a loss of power, equipment failure, or even fires on board.

Even when I was on board I still managed to keep up with my inner drive of working with code/computers. I created interactive training aids that helped newer operators learn how the electric plant works and test their ability to safely operate the electric plant. (MS Access/VB/MS Paint)

I created many different little Excel scripts that made life easier for everyone that needed to use them.

  • 💻 Freelance (2006 - 2021)

I've worked on many different projects over the course of my free time even when I was in the navy continuing my web development career. Some projects have survived most haven't. 🤷

    • CS 4 Cash (2006)

Created a mod for the game Counter-Strike that created an online gaming experience to wager/win credits while playing the game. This invovled modding the game servers (C++), hosting/managing game servers (linux), creating a website (PHP,HTML,CSS,JS), an api (PHP), and a database (MySQL).

    • Tonight's Bottle (2011)

Created the backend for a smart phone app that setup a waitlist/check-in for VIP in clubs. This involved creating an API server (PHP), a database (MySQL), and location integrations (GoogleMaps API)

    • Halo Stats Archive (2020 - 2021)

Created a searchable back up of everyone's Halo 3 game statistics from Bungie's servers before bungie shut down their servers. This involed creating scripts to pull all the stats pages and load them in a databse(Python/PHP), creating a database(PostgreSQL), Creating a API server to query the database(Python/Flask), Creating a front-end web server(C#/Angular).

    • My Personal Site

My personal creative playground/profile site. (HTML,CSS,JS,PHP) It needs updating but it exists online still.
