I get the same error when trying to use it with @microsoft/sharepoint.

OS: macOS 14.0
Node: 18.18.2 (v16 and v18 are supported by Sharepoint Framework v1.18.*)

I updated everything, uninstalled, installed again, no difference.

The issue should be posted at @microsoft/sharepoint repository.
They need to update yeoman-generator to at least v5.9.0.

As workaround install v4 npm install yo@4.
