This could be done, but not in conjunction with u-hidden. That class uses the CSS property display, and that property can't be animated.
Usually, animations concerning the visibility of an element use the CSS property opacity. There are no zss-classes for opacity yet, but they could easily be made. This means that instead of u-hidden, you would toggle the u-opacity--0 class.
Would something like that still work for you?

Yes, it does not matter which class I need to toggle from JS to trigger the animation.
Perhaps a class name more specific to animation or transition would be better, i.e. toggling a class: u-state-visible.
