This isn't so much a bug as a footgun: the any function takes a *const Self parameter (referring to the writer), which is stored in the AnyWriter as its context:

Hence, not only does the LinearFifo have to remain alive, but also the GenericWriter returned by writer, making return self.fifo.writer().any() invalid. The analogous scenario for GenericReader's any function is #17458.
