A custom override of __repr__ should work the same way it always has, I would think, with the caveat that the MRO might need to be tweaked to bring it "down" "below" Persistent---a mixin might be the easiest way to do that for some cases.

I could imagine Persistent trying to detect that it's __repr__ is shadowing a non-object __repr__ and calling that instead, but I'm not sure that's really a good idea, and I'm not sure how to do that in C.

@jamadden __repr__ did not work for me in the first place because of an MRO issue in my code. Using it on an MRO position before the one from persistent solves the issue.
