remotecontrol-for-winamp's Issues

not an error, more something for convenience - volume control via phone buttons

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. with the app running press 'Volume Up / Down'

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The volume of the ringtone is changed. I was hoping, that the app would
transmitt a volume change to winamp (e.g. 5% or so)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
PC:
Windows 7 32 Bit Ultimate
Winamp 5.61
remotecontrol plugin 0.94

Phone:
Nexus S Android 2.3.3
remotecontrol app 0.93

Please provide any additional information below.

Maybe add the 'android.view.KeyEvent' class to intercept volume up / down and
send these signals to winamp.

Best wishes,
Alex

Fails to reconnect with custom port

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set a custom port (e.g. 35941), uncheck the option to 'show window on Winamp
start' and connect
2. Play around a bit (ensure it's working :-) )
3. Hit the 'back'-Button on your cell phone
4. Restart the app on the cell phone

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I was hoping, that the cell phone and the PC reconnect, but a timeout appears.
The (almost [1]) only thing that helps is to restart Winamp.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

PC:
Windows 7 32 Bit Ultimate
Winamp 5.61

Cell phone:
Nexus S Android 2.3.3
remotecontrol for winamp 0.91

Please provide any additional information below.

After restarting the app on the cell phone, the plugin for winamp seems to
reset itself to 'factory settings' (Port 50000, all options checked). So one
could us a workaround to reset the port in the app.
But this only happens if one isn't looking: the remotecontrol window _must not_
be open (or have been opened prior). If you have the window open, all options
will remain the way you set them.

Upon restarting Winamp, everything is restored to my settings (custom port,
don't show window on startup).

Btw, where does the remotecontrol keep the user's settings?

I'm happy to help understand what I wrote (well...it's 2:45 a.m.)

Best wishes

Manually set local IP

For some reason remotecontrol-for-winamp displays two local IPs and both are
not even in the correct region.

one is 192.168.175.1 and one is 192.168.240.1

correct local ip would be 192.168.1.26

is there a way to manually set the local ip on the computer?

Suggestions: Queue management, move 'settings' to the menu button

My suggestions are:

most important of those 3:
1. add queue management to the app. That means at least viewing the que, better
still remove songs from the queue, manage queue order. The queue management
could be the third tab (--> move settings to the menu button)

2. As I said: replace the 'settings' tab with the 'queue management' tab, and
make the settings accessable through the menu button.

3. (only as gimmick, not really necessary:) switching between the 3 tabs by
whiping the screen horizontally

thanks mate!

Synchronizing corrupted playlist

When Winamp has loaded a playlist where one item points to a file that does not
exist or has been moved, the synchronization procedure crashes. The Winamp
plugin exits with the message "Winamp does not work anymore". Meanwhile the
Android app also crashes with the error message "The application RemoteControl
client (process com.RemoteControl) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

You can easily reproduce the problem.

1.Start winamp with plugin (winamp 5.3, server 1.10), start remote control for
winamp
2.select 'Playlist' tab on droid
3. Note this is windows xp pro on desktop

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
-Expect to see playlists or artists, albums, i.e. any media library info from
desktop winamp. The only thing shown is whatever single song I am playing on
desktop winamp.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
-see above. Possible that 'ml' directory for winamp has moved back to
c:\program files\winamp\plugins\ml from earlier versions where media library
was in user data directory?

Please provide any additional information below.
At first the server window on the desktop (from the remote control plugin) said
I had to delete c:\documents and settings\<user>\application
data\winamp\RemoteControl.dat. The winamp directory did not exist so I created
it with a blank RemoteControl.dat file, that resolved the message in the server
window.

Cover art does not display

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add music which does *not* have album (cover) art to queue to Winamp
(Windows), and play that music in Winamp (Windows) for several seconds (enough
to the audio).
2. Stop playback of that music and then add album art to that music with "Get
Album Art" function in Winamp (Windows).
3. Launch RemoteControl on the Android device, establish successful remote
connection and begin playback again fromt he RemoteControl app.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Album art which is showing in Winamp in Windows should also show in the
RemoteControl "Overview" tab on the Android device. I see a light blue square
with a black CD-like circle in the middle on the "Overview" tab (missing album
art).

App crashes when enqueing something in Winamp

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Winamp playing
2. Enqueing any track in Winamp (not via phone)
3. Sending any command from phone app
4. Reconnecting from phone app
5. Restarting server

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The playlist with new enqueued files should be synchronized on phone
immediately. And not only it isn't, but after that the phone app loses control
on Winamp. Both app and server stay "connected", but pausing, prv, next,
volume, enqueing from app doesn't change anything. When reconnect app, it stays
"Synchronizing" forever. When Restart server, client connects successfully, but
than Winamp crashes immediately.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
RemoteControl Server 0.96, Winamp 5.6, Win XP SP3
Phone App: v0.97, Galaxy Ace, Android 2.2 Froyo

Please provide any additional information below.
What I suggest to implement is keeping the playlist synchronise both ways.

'Conversion Error' message

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have 2+ monitors
2. Have the plugin window on a different screen to Winamp when you attempt to
connect.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

App will crash with 'Conversion error' when attempting to Connect.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Plugin 1.10, App 1.0 on Windows 7 64-bit

Please provide any additional information below.

The only way to fix this is to close the app and Winamp, reopen Winamp, drag
the plugin window to the same screen as Winamp and then reload the app. You can
then safely close the plugin window and it will work fine until you close
Winamp.

Possible quickfix could be to remember the last location of the plugin window
rather than automatically resetting it to the primary display.

filter in the app not working properly (or just confusing?)

I'm quite confused with how the filter works. At least it's not like the JTFE.
Here's what I mean (I will distinguish between the 'filter' in the app and the
JTFE in Winamp). I'll give you some examples which confuse me.

1. If I type : "velvet" the results are:
filter: Red Hot Chili Peppers - This Velvet Glove
JTFE: Red Hot Chili Peppers - This Velvet Glove

If I type: "velvet " (with the space at the end) the results ar:
filter: <none> (Result from above vanishes)
JTFE: Red Hot Chili Peppers - This Velvet Glove (still the same result)

First I thought, that the filter fails to find anything if you type a word
followed by a space, which is indeed often the case.
But then I saw:

2. If I type the exact name of the playlist entry into the filter, for example
"red hot chili peppers - this vel" the entry is perfectly found.

so what's the matter?^^ I don't understand if there's some secret to the filter
or if it's a bug

3. I have the title named "Ingrid Michaelson - Be OK [Acoustic Version]" in the
playlist. It I type "acoustic" it's not found by the filter, whereas it is in
JTFE. The filter finds it you type "[acoustic" (with the square bracket).
Typing the bracket is pretty annoying and normally you forget that you have to
do that.

could you please fix that or make it understandable?^^ Would be nice if you
could also search album titles, which are embedded as tags. That means that if
you filter for "By The Way" not only to get the one single song as result, but
the entire By The Way album, even if the playlist entries are not entitled with
the album name. (though actuall right now, the filter doesn't find anything at
all if I type "by the way", though the playlist entrie is named "Red Hot Chili
Peppers - By The Way". How is that possible???)

thanks for your time, mate!

First of all:

Thank you for this plugin - It works great (1.10)

Not really a issue but if possible can you please update the server sources to
version 1.10 (same as .dll) ?

C++ 2010 runtime files "out of date"

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.run installer on machine with 212 runtime files
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expecting installation to proceed. offer to install 2010 version

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.00 on Win7x64, have 2012 runtime files.

Please provide any additional information below.
In order to install 2010, 2012 would need to be uninstalled according to the
automated installer. This will potentially cause issues in the future for
applications expecting 2012 runtime files.

Phone app hangs in 'Synchronizing' loop - Server says 'Connected'

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Setup: Winamp (w/ remotecontrol plugin), remotecontrol app running
1. minimize app on the phone (_not_ close via 'Back'-Button)
2. deactivate Wifi
3. reactivate Wife
4. maximize app

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

App shows 'Synchronizing", while server just says 'Connected'. Restarting the
server breaks this loop.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

PC:
Windows 7 32 Bit Ultimate
Winamp 5.6
Remotecontrol plugin 0.93

Phone:
Nexus S Android 2.3.3

Please provide any additional information below.

The steps to reproduce are kind of senseless, but are a more safe way, then to
throw the phone out of the window (get out of wifi range) :-)

I don't know, if there's a more comfortable way, but my idea would be, to let
the app send regularly 'alive' pakets. The server notes the time when the last
'alive' paket arrived and after a certain time w/o new pakets automaticly
restarts the server.

Letting software crash runs in my family :-D

Best wishes
Alex
