Simple/Suckless Notepad for Android
I would like to be able to set categories for the notes. LesserPad does this very elegantly by creating corresponding subfolders in the files directory. (However, LesserPad lacks the nice search function of SNotepad...)
After pressing the Save button, a notification is shown at the bottom of the screen.
The duration of this notification message is 2 seconds, and it has a big size, so if the keyboard is up, the notification hides the contents of the current note. Which means I have to wait for 2 seconds each time I press save in order to continue typing.
Can you please reduce the time to 0.5 seconds for example? Or maybe reduce the size of the notification popup message?
Thank you.
last release 122 apk hang on start after install
It would be very convenient to sort the notes by file creation date
I'm running version 1.2.1.
The scrolling needs enhancement. I.e the quicker you scroll across the screen; the quicker it should scroll up/down.
Currently, scrolling follows the finger, and when the finger is lifted off the screen; scrolling stops instantly. It should be similar to scrolling in the Settings application.
It would be nice to have a dark theme apart from the default one. It makes reading easier for some people and it relaxes the eyes.
Currently it is so, that searching "foo" does not find "Foo", which is pretty annoying.
I have been looking a simple text editor. I really like yours. I can get it work with the internal memory. I can select a folder on the external sd card, but when I try to save it says permission denied. I have checked storgae permission and Snotepad has write permissions. Running Andriod 7.1.1, which I think might be the problem. I use ES file explorer and it had me do an extra step to grant SD write permissions the first time I tried to modify things on the sd card. Any idea's?
Please add this feature.
It would be nice if it was possible to search within a note.
The search function should highlight the matching words in yellow, and it should show a top/bottom bar with an 'up' and 'down' arrows to scroll through the matches. The search term is displayed on that bar and it should be possible to edit it.
When writing on the last line, the last words get obscurred by the save button. It would be much better if the button was placed next to the 'UNDO' & 'REDO' buttons.
While you have tagged new "versions", the Android system still recognizes this as version name "1.0" with versioncode 1, see app/build.gradle
. The name is a simple user facing string without any meaning applied. The code is an integer that is used to check if the app is an update or not. See https://developer.android.com/studio/publish/versioning.html.
Hi Aario.
I am using the latest version (1.2.1) of your program from fdroid. If l write a note and the sentence is to long I will switch from portait to landscape format by turn the phone then your snotepad crashes. You can start it again with no problems but in the same situation the program crashes again.
I use a Honor 4x with OS 4.4.2 phone. I hope you can fix this. In summary I find your program is very nice to use it for short notes.
A idea for future development:
A “sent to“ menu for the files would be very nice. So you can sent the notes on whatsapp for example.
Thanks it advance
Marco
currently, build.gradle
at tag 1.2.1 and at tag 1.2.2 both identify as versionCode 2
– which makes them the very same version and thus prevents F-Droid from picking up v1.2.2. Could you please fix that? Easiest way would be increasing versionName
to "1.2.3" and versionCode
to 4, then tagging that commit as "1.2.3".
Thanks in advance, @aario!
F-Droid has version 1.2.1 as the latest version, but 1.2.2 is available on github.
in Select Folder it seems impossible to put an Owncloud address in order to sync notes
Works great overall. When a text file is not open it switches from portrait to landscape just fine. But when a text file is open for editing in portrait, when changing from portrait to landscape by turning the orientation of the phone it crashes. The same crash happens when in landscape and switching to Portrait while editing text.
I'm using a Nexus 6 with Android 7.0.
For now, whenever I'm editing text I lock the screen orientation in either portrait or landscape mode and everything is fine. But it would be useful if I didn't have to do that.
Add button to paste date as in the format: yyymmdd as a string (ex: 20171002).
This is very helpful in writing diaries. Also very helpful for dating notes/todos/lists... etc.
I use it on my ubuntu with a keyboard button shortcut script to paste date and rename files:
/bin/bash -c "date +\"%Y%m%d\"| tr -d '\n' | xclip -selection clipboard && xdotool key Control_L+v"
Add option to backup all written notes to an email address.
The Android system can already do that (email the notes folder), but it changes all of the modification dates of the notes.
Thank you for snotepad. Please add your bitcoin address to your readme and f-droid page.
Current version from F-Droid.

It would be nice if it was possible to change the folder from within the app.
The workflow would be:
