Organization:
Chicago Public Library (CPL) serves all the residents of the City of Chicago. They have 81 locations, 4.5M annual visitors, 1M card holders, and 6M items in the collection. CPL is the largest provider of free internet access in the City, with over 900K PC sessions and 3M free wifi sessions annually. In addition, CPL connects patrons with a wide variety of programming, educational and social service supports, including public health (vaccines, Narcan overdose prevention), education, and economic and financial inclusion resources.
Goals:
The Chicago Public Library aims to gain a deeper understanding of the communities they serve in order to equitably and effectively allocate resources that cater to the communities' specific needs.
- Exploratory data analysis/visualizations to understand the populations assigned to branches
- Explore cardholder level data to understand usage patterns to help facilitate the refining of resources and programs offered
- Link in transit information to understand which library branches may be underserved by public transit
