i don't see anything specific to pikaur in your logs - you would get the same error if running makepkg command directly manually

Sorry for the false positive.
For anyone else stumbling upon this, I found help here: https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/aur-update-failure-cannot-find-the-debugedit-binary/53062/11
For some reason, base-devel wasn't installed anymore on my machine, which includes debugedit. Installing it resolved the issue. An alternative is to disable the debug flag in /etc/makepkg.conf - probably an upstream change here made this issue occur.
