how to build the windows installer?

Hi, I read the docs on https://cpython-core-tutorial.readthedocs.io/en/latest/build_cpython_windows.html and it seems do not provide the instructions or guides on how to make the windows installer?

I use \Tools\msi\build.bat -x86 or Tools\msi\buildrelease.bat -x86 currently, it only build the executables and a lot of msi.

And the build files python-3.10.5.exe or python-3.10.5-amd64.exe is quite samll.

Could you share your solutions?

2022-09-06 saw the releases of the following source-only, "security bugfix release", Python editions by the PSF:

py3.7.14 (VistaSP2+)
py3.8.14 (Win7SP1+)
and
py3.9.14 (Win8.1+)
(the first source-only release in the 3.9.x branch...)

A repo update to accommodate these latest releases would be immensely appreciated! 😃

I cannot get the tools/msi/msi.py file to work on this versions oof.

The size of the installer is much bigger than official's?

The official ones are used to be like 28MB but they are like 48MB here. What makes such difference?

We can not install python-3.8.18-amd64-full.exe

Thanks for you created this project so we can install latest version of Python 3.8.
This is a issure of below install.

would you check it's status.

Can you publish your changes to the build scripts?

Thanks for your work here, however I'd prefer to build from source myself - it's a bit strange downloading binaries from the repo itself. Could you publish your changes to the build scripts?

Windows 7 / 8-friendly Python 3.9, 3.10 Windows installers

Starting from Python 3.9.0, Python 3 no longer supports Windows 7 and 8 and the official Python 3 Windows installer refuses to install, once it detects Windows 7 or 8.

According to @nalexandru, it is however possible to run Python 3.9 and 3.10 on Windows 7 and 8 by using his and @kobilutil 's implementation of api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0.dll, which itself is based on the WINE project's code. While this would be a really simple and straightforward method to make Python 3.9+ run on Windows 7 again, it is currently defeated by the official Python Windows installer's somewhat vexatious implementation of its OS check, which doesn't allow to override its decision to cancel the installation under any cirumstances (not even by an undocumented command line switch).

Hence my question: Could you also build a current 3.10.6 Windows installer for x64 and x86 with the OS check being removed? As far as I can see, modifying tools/msi/bundle/bootstrap/PythonBootstrapperApplication.cpp as follows should be enough:

I need Python 3.9.18 which is used for a python script that doesn't support 3.10 or later.

And I found it hasn't been updated yet.

Can't update python 3.9.13 to 3.9.14

Can you tell me how to build one installer file?

Hey I am able to build the Installer with the scripts in Tools/msi/ but my installer consists of mutiple files (e.g. python-3.8.12.7652-amd64.exe, pip.msi, pip.wixpdb, lib.msi, lib.wixpdb and so on) , you mangaged to build one big file containing everything e.g. "64-bit executable installer". How do I have to change the scripts to be able to do that.
