polyharpye's Introduction

polyharpye

The Polyharye is an Xstrument, i.e. a complex performance setup, designed for playing sound sources through resonator networks. It is written in SuperCollider.

The sound sources can be microphones, piezos attached to physical objects, or electronic sound generators, or sound generators running in SuperCollider itself. On macOS, one can also create sound sources by playing on a MultiTouchPad.

The sound sources are playing onto a 2D map of virtual sound inputs, and mapped based on proximity: a sound scource will play into virtual inputs near its location.

The resonator patches are Ndefs (sound generators in SuperCollider), and can be told which subsets of the virtual inputs to listen to. E.g., all inputs could go into sitar-string-like resonators, or 10 inputs go to the sitar, 20 go to a modeled tabla, and 20 others to a glassharp sound. These combinations can be stored in scenes.

It is designed to be played with the polyharpye objects, as described here: https://2020.xcoax.org/adc/

polyharpye's Issues

add focus/shape to MTP and drifting mics

MTP fingers and the drifting mics currently have rather wide cones of influence.
these should be tunable:
with xy-dist based panning, adjust power law and floor/0-cutoff level;
with bell-shape panning, adjust full radius and (linear) cone steepness.

balance amps, put amp controls before resons

the sound patches differ in volume / sensitivity

  • balance them better
  • put volume control early, e.g. after the inputs,
to keep physically undisturbed ringing when amp is changed

moving mics should swarm-drift and be hand-movable

input mics playing into ph should not drift along a line,
but swarm-drift everywhere - boids?
keep minimum distance to others and from edges,
and maintain average drift-speed/activity.
best as a tdef?
should also be movable by hand, i.e.
put one mic somewhere and keep it there.
