anon-hotspot's Introduction

anon-hotspot

On demand Debian Linux (Tor) Hotspot setup tool

Turn Raspberry Pi 3/or any other Debian Linux based device into a (Tor) WiFi Hotspot

You need two things:

  1. Clone anon-hotspot git repo
  2. Raspberry PI 3 or any other Debian Linux based device with ethernet port and wifi card

RPI3 or any other device you want to run this on needs to be connected to internet via ethernet port, while WiFi interface will be turned into an AP/Hotspot.

While this tool was made and tested on Raspbian (jessie) on RPI3. It'll work on any other Debian Linux based device. So, if you don't have RPI3 laying around, but have an old computer which you'd like to turn into Tor Hotspot be my guest. If you run into problems, please create an issue.

Since this tool is still under development, it's recommended you run it on freshly installed Raspbian (>= Jessie) and not on your prod environments.

Stuck on "obtaining IP adress"

Hi,

When i start anon hotspot (anon-hotspot start), it starts to broadcast SSID, but, when i connect to the hotspot, device shows "obtaining IP adress" or something similar, and doesn´t connect. help only when i reconfigure hotspot using "anon-hotspot configure".

thank for any help.

Can't tur wifi on

I'm applying the script on an orange pi zero. When we arrived at the connecting part of the wifi the following message appeared:

root@orangepizero:~/anon-hotspot# Configuration file /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf
n180211: Could not configure driver mode
n180211: deinit ifname=wlan0 disabled_11b_rates=0
n180211 driver initialization failed.
wlan0: interface state UNINITIALIZED->DISABLED
wlan0: AP-DISABLED
hostapd_free_hapd_data: Interface wlan0 wasn`t started

I would like to know the best way to solve if it is to compile the drive what is it?

Allow WiFi => Ethernet hotspots, and Ethernet => Ethernet hotspots.

Currently, you can connect via Ethernet, and serve out the hotspot via WiFi.... i.e. Ethernet => WiFi.

It would be great if you could also do:

WiFi => Ethernet

Ethernet => Ethernet

I especially want to serve out Ethernet hotspots, due to security issues with wireless, i.e. a hacked endpoint computer could find out your local WiFi router, and other wireless devices in the house, and thus, identify you.

You could implement this as a menu, something like a checkbox where you can choose:

[ X ] Ethernet => WiFi

[ ] WiFi => Ethernet

[ ] Ethernet => Ethernet

It would also be nice if you could choose from ifconfig names, for those of us whose wireless isn't named "wlan0" and ethernet isn't named "eth0"

For example, I am using QUBES OS, and my Ethernet is called "enp0s1", and my WiFi is called "wlp0s0"

Thanks
