Thanks for the great tips! I was inspired and went through the same process you presented, and though I didn't go so far as to use your stream library (I wish this was already built into React core!), I did discover one more significant enhancement: render all components on the server as stateless functions.

This change alone cut my benchmark render time in half (~200ms > ~100ms). It was a bit tricky to find an api that renders as a stateless function on the server, while at the same time rendering a stateful subclass of React.Component on the client, but it was worth the effort. The only hiccup seems to be a mismatch between data-reactid when using keys. I'm not sure why that is, but I'm hoping that will no longer be a problem in v15. Anyway, thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, and take a look here if you're curious.
