TuteScrew is a Discord chat bot written in Go for teamRPI's Discord. The goal of TuteScrew is to be fast, efficient, and easily expandable in the future.

Getting Started

Installation

Install Go
Run go get github.com/albshin/tutescrew
Fill out the configuration file see below

Configuration

The configuration file must be filled out before the bot can run.

Token: Can be obtained from here.
Prefix: The prefix needed to call upon the bot.
CASAuthURL: URL to RPI's CAS authentication server. currently: https://cas-auth.rpi.edu/cas/login
CASRedirectURL: URL to redirect to upon authentication success.

Change variable names for arguments for clarity

Need to rename variables to follow these slides:

https://talks.golang.org/2014/names.slide

Currently, some variables are very short while their typing is not descriptive. This makes it confusing to know what these variables are supposed to hold.

Easier configuration with development/production profiles

As of right now, configuration is read from a single file named config.json without separate settings between development and production. This process needs to be streamlined for easy development and deployment.

Discord Bot Crashing

As of right now, the bot seems to crash during operation.

Error Checking

As of right now, most functions do not return a proper error upon failure. In addition, inside these functions, error checking is being ignored. Need to implement a standard error checking/logging system.

Implement database to store registered RCSIDs

As of right now, multiple Discord accounts can be associated with a single RCS User. A database is needed to prevent that.
