QueryException when changing table name

I have tried using this with the latest 5.1.* I am unable to get laravel to see the exp_members table. Also is there a way I can change the connection string specifically for the user and allow for multiple dbs?

I have tried changing $table in the auth.php and of course setup the User model and serviceProviders as specified in your directions.

Existing EE Members not authenticating

Am I missing something? I just stepped through the whole auth process with xdebug and the two hash values do not match on the existing EE members. I have followed the setup instructions and I'm using the latest Laravel 5.1. Something I noticed when stepping through is that the salt is not being set from the members' table to the model when rehashing... could this be the issue?
