This is due to the CPU hogging of bitcoinjs coupled with the fact that an asset starts updating itself right after construction. When the validation of a model read in from a file fails, this may lead to a situation where a BtcWallet has already been successfully validated but the validation of the whole model fails due to errors discovered later.

"New" currently does this unconditionally while "Open..." simply always opens in the current window, even if there are unsaved changes.
