1. What steps will reproduce the problem?
Open an AVI (or other file?) that has associated sub/idx or ssa subtitles.
2. What is the expected output?
The expected result would be for Movist to recognise the associated
subtitles and allow one to enable/disable them.
3. What do you see instead?
Movist does not recognise these subtitles at all when they are present in
the same directory as the AVI file, nor is it possible to specify a sub/idx
or ssa file from File > Open Subtitle Files.
3. What version of the product are you using?
Movist 0.6.1
4. On what operating system?
Mac OS X 10.5.7
5. Please provide any additional information below.
I have not tried this with non-AVI files but i have no reason to believe
that the behaviour would not be the same for any video format. SSA
subtitles embedded in MKVs also do not function, but there is a separate
issue reported for this.

1. What steps will reproduce the problem?
See seek buttons in main Movist window and full-screen control HUD.
2. What is the expected output?
The seek buttons should have a standard appearance and it should be obvious
what their function is.
3. What do you see instead?
The seek buttons in Movist do not look like seek buttons in other video
players, and thus their function is not obvious. Initially i thought
clicking them would skip to the next item in the play list, because
convention dictates that the 'skip' icons have one arrow (and/or a vertical
bar) whilst 'seek' icons have two.
3. What version of the product are you using?
Movist 0.6.1
4. On what operating system?
Mac OS X 10.5.7
5. Please provide any additional information below.
Please refer to any major media player — VLC, QuickTime, Windows Media
Player, Media Player Class, &c. — they all have a similar set of standards
for the seek/skip buttons. My suggestion: Make the seek buttons have two
arrows next to each other, and put vertical bars on the skip buttons. See
the attached seek.png for what it CURRENTLY looks like, and the attached
mockup.png for an quick illustration of how i think it SHOULD look.

1. What steps will reproduce the problem?
Drag multiple files from the Finder into the play-list window.
2. What is the expected output?
The expected result would be to always add the files in alphabetical order
— for example, if i drag Episode 20.avi, Episode 21.avi, Episode 22.avi,
and Episode 23.avi into the window, they should appear in that order.
3. What do you see instead?
Movist adds the files in the order that you've selected them in the Finder.
For example, if i select a group of files from the bottom (which would be
23, 22, 21, then 20), it will appear in that order in the play list. Or if
i use open-apple+select to choose 22 then 21 then 20 then 23, it will
appear in that order.
3. What version of the product are you using?
Movist 0.6.1
4. On what operating system?
Mac OS X 10.5.7
5. Please provide any additional information below.
I think this was probably done intentionally, but it's still contrary to
what i expect — especially since i normally select from the bottom of the
window in the Finder instead of the top. If this behaviour remains i will
either have to completely change my file-selecting habits or i will have to
deal with Movist adding the files in reverse order every time.
Maybe a compromise would be best? You could include a check box in
Preferences to the effect of 'Always re-order files to alphabetical order'.

Hello,
Since Movist is able to benefit from quicktime codec, would it be possible to
implement the
chapters feature available in m4v files and I would also appreciate if there
would be an option to
enable and/or disable software subtitles (for example added by a program named
"Muxo")
iTunes and Quicktime are able to provide these options (see attached
screenshots) so i think it
would be great to implement this feature to movist as well.
thanx and keep up the good work :)

Currently, it is only possible to set linespacing for subtitles that it
>100% of the point size. But this is not practical for many fonts in which
the default linespacing is too large. Therefore the user often wants to
reduce the linespacing to 85 or 90% of the point size. So the linespacing
slider in Preferences / Subtitle should be measured in percent and should
have the default setting (100%) in the CENTER, not at the leftmost end.

I often play wide screen movies in a small window while working. I hope you can
provide a way to

Also, a way to expand the window from the lower left corner (not very Mac-like,
I know), but useful
for upper-right-side small window viewers like me.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would like it if I could set a preference that controlls whether a movie
automatically begins playing when
I double-click on its file icon. Of the movies I download from the Internet,
some seem to be set so that
they will not begin playing as soon as they are opened, and others appear to be
set so that they do begin
playing as soon as they are opened. I would like it if this could be a
preference set by the movie player
(as well as in the movie file), like it is in QuickTime with the "Automatically
play movies when opened"
preference. I am not sure if this is a QT or QT Pro preference because I have
QT Pro and have never
checked a non-QT Pro computer to see if that preference is available on it.

A small delay when switching is OK, but in this case the delay is actually

Also, this MAY affect other formats (like MKV), but i'm not sure, because

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open any divx movie
2. Observe the CPU usage
First thanks to the movist developer, I really like it, especially I enjoy
its fast seek / jump speed over network file systems! My movie files are
hosted and shared on a home server running windows, and can be accessed
through SMB from my Macbook. Other players, such as VLC, cost 5~10 secs if
I want do fast seek in the movie. But movist almost jump to the place
immediately! I noticed the time it jump to isn't exactly the time I
specified, but a few secs lesser, I guess it will always jump to a key
frame right before the time I select, very intelligent!
Well, problem happens when I was watching some HD movies, I noticed my
macbook became very hot, because the cpu load is about 90%! I tested the
same movies with VLC 0.9.6, it was about 30%. I think such a difference is
not reasonable.

Would it be possible to implement a preference for the default audio language
movist plays.
For example if I am playing an mkv with and english audio track and a japanese
audio track, it
would be good to be able to specify in preferences that english is my preferred
audio language, so
when I open this file the english track is automatically the track that is
played in the movie.

that's what VLC calls it. Also, because all my OGMs are in this format i am
unable to confirm whether this happens with other subtitle formats in OGMs
— if Movist's MKV-subtitle support is any indication it probably does, but
i can't be sure.
I would be willing to upload an example file if needed.

In VLC the control HUD defaults to the centre every time you open it, but

think this is the best behaviour, but if absolutely necessary there could
be an advanced setting to force it to remember.

2. Switch to FFmpeg if necessary.
3. Open the Control Panel.
4. Clear the checkbox next to "Sound Track".
5. Mark the checkbox next to "Sound Track".
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Sound resumes.
Actual: Sound stops. Switching to QuickTime playback makes the sound work
again, but
switching back to FFmpeg doesn't. The only way to get the sound to resume is
to press Escape
then play again.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Sorry for spamming these, but i think Movist really has a lot of potential
so i want it to get better. :)
1. What steps will reproduce the problem?
Open Movist and add multiple items to your play list. Start watching the
first item, and resize the window (for example, set it to 200% size). When
Movist moves on to the next item in the play list, it will return to 100% size.
2. What is the expected output?
I would like it if Movist maintained the same window size i had set for the
previous item when it moves to the next one in the list. For example, if
i'm watching a series of television episodes in a row, and i resize the
window to 200% on the first episode, it stands to reason that i would like
to watch ALL of the episodes at 200%.
3. What do you see instead?
When Movist moves on to the next item in the play list, it automatically
resets the size of the window to 100% of the new video size. This happens
every single time Movist moves ahead in the play list.
3. What version of the product are you using?
Movist 0.6.1
4. On what operating system?
Mac OS X 10.5.7
5. Please provide any additional information below.
To be fair, this does not seem to be a common feature in other media
players — e.g., as far as i know, VLC and MPC function exactly like Movist.
However, it's always been annoying to me, because i frequently watch
television episodes as i'm working in other things, and because my monitor
is so large, the low resolution of many television rips becomes an
annoyance. Movist should default to 100% when you're starting a new
session, but *within the same session* i would like if i could watch these
episodes straight through at the size i've set rather than having to resize
the window every single time a new episode begins.
There are some other factors to consider, of course. For example, what
happens if i'm watching a 640x480 video at 150% and then the next item in
the play list is 1280x960? Should Movist resize to 100% on this item
because it's larger, or should it stay the same size as before? In this
case i would probably say stay the same.
Another example: What if i'm watching a video with a 4:3 aspect ratio and
then the next item in the play list is 16:9? Here i would say that Movist
should stay the same WIDTH, but it should shrink in HEIGHT to get rid of
the black bars.

Good day sir!
Since earlier versions of Movist, the "Under Scan" still seems to be set as
maximum as 10%. Some
CRT TV's do overscan over 10-15%. Is it possible, that You enlarge the amount
of underscanning
percentage to choose?
Also, it will be very useful to use trackpad gestures to rewind/volume change
like QuickTime does.
Thank You, and much success to Your project!
Sincerely,
Roman.

1. What steps will reproduce the problem?
Open a video in Movist, then pause/unpause or seek ahead.
2. What is the expected output?
The expected result is for the video to pick up relatively seamlessly where
it left off.
3. What do you see instead?
Seeking and unpausing cause brief and minor (but very irritating) play-back
issues. For example, the video will often run at 2x speed for a second
after unpausing. As another example, sometimes the sound takes a second or
two to start up again.
3. What version of the product are you using?
Movist 0.6.1
4. On what operating system?
Mac OS X 10.5.7
5. Please provide any additional information below.
I have been able to reproduce this issue on several files of different
formats (including MKV/H.264 and AVI/XviD). This behaviour is not present
in VLC, nor in Media Player Classic + ffmpeg on Windows.

movist will drop frames when watching a video and when having the mouse over
the timeline
area whenever the tooltip appears showing the time. this also happens when you
use mac os x
volume up/down controls and it shows the volume icons over the video. this
seems to happen in
FFMPEG decoding from what i can tell
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. watch certain videos with FFMPEG decoder
2. move the mouse over the timeline at bottom and move it back and forth
causing the
counter/overlay showing time to show up
3. this seems to also happen with other overlays (volume up/down) on top of the
video windo
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
-the video should keep playing smooth and not drop any frames
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.5.1 build
Please provide any additional information below.
mac os x 10.5.5, hardware accelerated opgenl/quartz enabled, nvidia 8800GT.
