AnySoftKeyboard Add-On Packs

master latest build: CircleCI

    Gitter chat

This repo holds the Add-On API module and all the official language packs and themes for AnySoftKeyboard (in a mono-repo style). Each language is a set of two modules, pack and apk. pack is an Android library that holds all the information about the language pack (keyboards, dictionaries, receivers, etc.), while apk bundles that into an installable (and publishable) APK.

NOTE: this repo is in transition to mono-repo style. Some language-packs are in master while others are still in the old structure where each language-pack is a branch.

How to create a Language-Pack

Let's say you want to create a language-pack for Klingon. We'll call the pack klingon, and its locale is kl.

  1. Easiest way to start, is to duplicate one of the other packs: cp -R english klingon.
  2. Add the new modules to Gradle. Edit settings.gradle, add the line:
include ":languages:klingon:pack", ":languages:klingon:apk"
  1. At this point, you'll need to sync you Android Studio project.
  2. Rename the package names (com.anysoftkeyboard.english.* -> com.anysoftkeyboard.klingon.*:
    • Change package value in AndroidManifest.xml files (one in pack and the second in apk).
    • Move the PackBroadcastReceiver package to the right place.
  3. Rename the english_keyboards.xml and english_dictionary.xml files (under klingon/pack/src/main/res/xml) to klingon_keyboards.xml and klingon_dictionaries.xml.
  4. Replace the dictionary files under klingon/pack/dictionary with inputs matching your language (and remove what's not relevant):
    • Try to locate AOSP dictionary files (could be found at AOSP, or LineageOS) (you should use the XX_wordlist.combined.gz file).
    • If you have anything that was pre-built into a word-list XML, put those under klingon/pack/dictionary/prebuilt.
    • Add text files that will be parsed - word-counted - to generate word-list XMLs
  5. Generate the dictionary: ./gradlew :languages:klingon:pack:makeDictionary. This will create the following files (which should not checked into the repo):
    • raw resources under klingon/pack/src/main/res/raw/klingon_words_?.dict
    • IDs resource array under klingon/pack/src/main/res/values/klingon_words_dict_array.xml
  6. Edit klingon_dictionaries.xml:
    • to point to the new array resource @array/klingon_words_dict_array
    • replace the id with a new GUID.
    • replace name and description
    • replace the locale
  7. Set the status-bar icon text at klingon/pack/build.gradle: ext.status_icon_text = "kl"
  8. Replace the flag at klingon/apk/flag with a, high-quality, png or svg, image of the flag. It should be named flag.png or flag.svg. Note that sometimes svg files are not converted correctly, but they will produce highest quality if successful.
  9. To generate the icons, you'll need ImageMagick installed on your path. Check out the installation page for details.
  10. Generate the icons: ./gradlew :languages:klingon:pack:generateLanguagePackIcons :languages:klingon:apk:generateStoreLogoIcon. This will generate the following files (which should be checked into the repo):
    • klingon/pack/src/main/res/drawable-*/ic_status_klingon.png
    • klingon/apk/src/main/res/mipmap-*/ic_launcher.png
    • klingon/apk/src/main/play/listings/en-US/graphics/feature-graphic/pack_store_feature_graphics.png
    • klingon/apk/src/main/play/listings/en-US/graphics/icon/pack_store_icon.png
  11. Edit the keyboard layouts to your language, remove what's not needed, and add new ones if you need. Make sure the names of the layouts include you pack-name (klingon).
  12. Edit klingon_keyboards.xml. For each of the layouts you want in your pack (the layouts you created in the previous step):
    • Generate a new GUID.
    • Set the locale value at defaultDictionaryLocale to match the value you used in klingon_dictionaries.xml.
    • Set the status-bar icon at iconResId to the generate icon @drawable/ic_status_kl
    • Update the texts (name and description).

At this point, you should be able to build an APK that can be installed on your device:

./gradlew :languages:klingon:apk:assembleDebug

or directly install it on your connected device:

./gradlew :languages:klingon:apk:installDebug

Iterate on your pack until you feel it is good, and then create a PR to merge it to the master.

Publish pack

You can either publish by yourself, under your developer account and keep complete ownership, or you can let us (aka AnySoftKeyboard organization) do it.

languagepack's Issues

Latvian keyboard double press letter change

Hey!
The latvian keyboard has a feature, I guess intended for physical keyboards: https://github.com/AnySoftKeyboard/LanguagePack/blob/Latvian/src/main/res/xml/qwerty_physical.xml
So this changes eg. ss so š. The problem is that latvian has many words with for example "ss", or other double letters. So when I am typing those words, eg. "ieeja", I get as result "iēja".
Is there any reason for this physical keyboard config to exist? Shouldn't physical keyboards include other keys which can be used to achieve those special letters?
I am for deleting the physical keyboard config.

Improper Handling of Shift Key for Indian Languages

We are developing Language Pack for 22 Indian Languages. However, we are facing some issues regarding developing Language Pack.

  1. Indian Language characters and conjuncts on both Shift and Unshift layers of the keyboard are not getting inputted properly. Anysoftkeyboard doesn't handle shift key on the keyboard properly for Indian Language(s).
    For instance,
    Consider this Key element
<Key android:codes="0x094C" android:keyWidth="7%p" custom:shiftedCodes="0x0914" custom:shiftedKeyLabel="\u0914" android:horizontalGap="1.5%p" android:popupCharacters="\u0914" android:keyEdgeFlags="left"/>

When Shift Key is pressed, the label on the above key changes from Unshift to shift(i.e from U+094C to U+0914) . But, when the above key is pressed the text entered in the editor is of the Unshift state(i.e U+094C).

Kindly let us know how to use Shift key for the above issue.

Centralization of language pack

Maybe you can create each languague pack separately in this repository to easily improve them. Another Idea is to allow the user to download language pack in the app and theme for keyboard as apk and let the user choose which keyboard to associate with each language pack .

Adding Kabyle LanguagePack

Hi @menny,
I would like to help and create a Kabyle LanguagePack for AnySoftKeyboard.
Kabyle language or Taqbaylit is ISO 639-3.
About Kabyle language : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabyle_language
There's a little kab Wikipedia here : https://kab.wikipedia.org/
Mozilla Firefox was translated in Kabyle recently : https://mozilla.locamotion.org/kab/
Mozilla Website in kab : https://www.mozilla.org/kab/

The input method as a first step is to be able to type in latin. The other step is to be able to switch to another Keyboard which is called Tamazight (may be we need a special font to install here such as Noto Tifinagh on Android).

Tifinagh in Unicode : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tifinagh#Unicode
Let's start with Kabyle (Taqbaylit) first.

There a simple Layout on this app that we can reproduce and improve (KeyBer) :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pcps.inputmethod.skeyboard

Thank you for reading me :-)

German reduced language pack

I'm using the german language pack on my S4,
no problem the keys are large enough. But using this setup on the S4
mini the keys get a bit small. Therefore the question:
Is there a german qwertz-layout available with less (no ä,ö,ü,ß
etc) but larger keys?
Actually I'm using the english layout but this is qwerty :-(

Several combination for one key

I trying to associate letter "х" to alt+o and i got it. But when i trying to press shift+alt+0 do not get "X". I tryed to add this line:
<SequenceMapping keySequence="44" altModifier="true" shiftModifier="true" targetChar="X" />
and I always get "X", with pressing shift and without shift.
This is a bag? Or i doing something wrong?

Italian grammar mistake

There is a grammar mistake in the italian pack.
The mistake is in this file: LanguagePack/dictionary/it_wordlist.combined

Wrong: "qual'è"
Right: "qual è"

Value of f in UserWords.xml and words.xml

After following instruction how to create binary dictionary here, which I search and find the app my self trough search engine, cause it is not mentioned in LanguagePack Readme file. :)

I got words.xml with bunch of words, and the value of f=x is up to f="1586873, but when we export user dictionary from app the value of f is up to 255.

  1. is it is fine, or we need to tidy up the value of f manually ? or the app will handle it?
  2. I found some non-local Indonesian word in words.xml e.g author,date,time and some strange words e.g ac,a,ad,as,af , do we need to remove it ?, I think removing it in 49789 lines will consume days.

during the past days using ASK, I hack it to avoid many typos by :

  • renaming words.xml to UserWords.xml
  • put it in root\sdcard\Android\data\com.menny.android.anysoftkeyboard\files
  • do restore
  • finish

but of course non Indonesian suggestion still appears.

@menny @friesenkiwi thanks for #72, sorry for late reply, I really waiting you guys, checking that issue almost everyday. but these two week I get some busy in deep village with minimal electricity and internet connection, so sorry for late reply. thanks lot.

Typo in Russian 2.0 tag

Russian 2.0 is tagged as russion_2.0 instead of russian_2.0. Could you add (not replace) the correct tag?

Add option to change the language used in the user interface of the app

Some apps (Firefox, Telegram…) give the option to change the language used in the user interface of the app without changing the locale of the device. It would be great if AnySoftKeyboard did the same.

Basque language is an officially supported language in Android but most manufacturers don’t include it in their custom Android builds yet, as a consecuence, many Basque speakers have devices with Spanish/French locales. I think that it’s a common issue with other minoritary languages as well.

In older versions of Android it was easy to change the locale of the device using apps like EveryLocale, but nowadays it’s more difficult. The user must use adb to give permission to EveryLocale to change the locale, that’s too complex for most users.

New Sicilian language pack

Hello,
as part of the ongoing effort in making Sicilian (scn) a recognized language by local authorities, I've created, inside Cadèmia Siciliana @cademia, a Sicilian keyboard. I therefore ask for the creation of a new branch, so that I can send a PR.

I currently have a nice working keyboard, and have also generated a dictionary. I need to make the latter a bit better, since the given suggestions don't seem of high quality (I'm parsing a dump of scn,wikipedia.org), but I guess this can be improved later.

Thank you for ASK!

What does folder/package means?

Hi, trying to go through README but can't get over point 3

In Android Studio, Refactor->Rename the folder/package com.anysoftkeyboard.languagepack.languagepack in the project tree, replacing the last languagepack with the name of the language. This will automatically change it at a couple of other locations.

I'm in Android Studio 2.3.3

Czech language pack update

The Czech branch contains the old data/code (org.herrlado...).

Should I sync the branch with the master and update it to com.anysoftkeyboard.languagepack...?

Do you have any plan for the transition of the package in such case?

No more suggestion on bepo keyboard

Since the last update, I don't have any suggestions while using the bépo layout but it comes back if I switch to the azerty layout.

Any idea on what's causing this?

Spanish Dvorak layout: dictionary doesn't work

Hi!
I'm trying the Spanish Dvorak layout, but it defaults to the English Dictionary. Looking through settings, I've seen it like Dvorak - (en).

Using latest version from F-Droid but with the Play Store one is the same.

French keyboard

Hi,

The French AZERTY keyboard now has 2 simple quote ( ' ) keys, see screenshot.
I suggest changing the new one (the one on the left to the erase key) as a dot ( . ) key as this is a really badly missing one on the French keyboard.

Cheers, TMTisFree
(French translator of ASK)

German language: Section sign missing

On German computer keyboards the section sign "§" can be typed using Shift+3 so it is easily writable. In AnySoftKeyboard with German language layout I cannot see how to write this sign at all. I tried all buttons in all keyboard-views by long pressing on them. Inside the Android standard AOSP keyboard the section sign can be typed by long pressing on the pilcrow (¶). I think the section sign was simply forgotten.

Missing button

As of the latest update the right button in the upper bar disappeared. This is an intended issue by the release notes, but now the only way to switch back from the symbol layout to the normal is to swipe.

Esperanto: Problems with suggestions and auto corrections with capitalization

Here are some examples below of behavior with capitalization of the first letter of words. As you can see even though sometimes the target word does come up as a suggestion it doesn't become the choice and even disappears when completed or near completion. Here is also a link describing normal capitalization in Esperanto: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto_orthography#Capitalization Seems to work fine but every starting of the sentence the auto capitalization kills the autocorrect.

parawizard

Asking recomendation fo f value in word list

@friesenkiwi find nice Indonesian word list that crawled from specific web, so that it already contain a statistic value based on appearance.

e.g

yang	795050
di	709509
dan	629540
ini	332855
itu	313570
dengan 312096

but I want to know what is the max and min value of f in user word list ?, so that I can scale those big value to match min max value of ASK.

I done little research, and some of them e.g dutch contain only 72 - 255.

I have this simple awk script to scale all number wich work nice. But I am asking the recommended minimum value, is it 72, 1 or other ?

function scale_between(unscaled_num, min_allowed, max_allowed, min, max) {
    scaled_num = int((max_allowed - min_allowed) * (unscaled_num - min) / (max - min) + min_allowed);

}

{
    scale_between($2, 1, 255, 271, 795050);
    print $1, scaled_num;

}

PS: using this script the result will be like:

pemerintah      45524
pun     45026
jika    44460
jalan   43671
dinobatkan      274
memperbanyak    271

pemerintah 15
pun 15
jika 15
jalan 14
dinobatkan 1
memperbanyak 1

Thank you.

Dependency on AnySoftKeyboard apk

Oftentimes end-users install a language pack without reading the instructions and get disappointed that the app is not working right away. Would it be possible to add a dependency into the language pack apk so it'd require installing ASK and maybe even help to find it and ask if it's OK to install ASK automatically? Thank you.

French dictionnary update

Hi everyone,

Several people (and myself) who've tried the french language pack seem rather disappointed by its dictionnary correction/prediction system. For instance, it fails to recognize many conjugated verb forms, even common ones. That actually led me to switch to SwiftKey for my everyday phone, though I keep using ASK for my other devices.

Anyway : I believe the french dictionnary could be updated/upgraded with data from dicollecte.org (http://dicollecte.org/home.php?prj=fr), which provides (free-as-in-beer) french dictionnaries and thesauruses.

I already wrote about it there : AnySoftKeyboard/AnySoftKeyboard#109, but I guess a new issue here would be more logical.

Marked as vulnerable in F-Droid

I just updated F-Droid to version 1.0 and it altered me that a number of my installed packages, including the French language package for ASK, were vulnerable.

More precisely, it has the KnownVul and DisabledAlgorithm tags, both described here. From what I understand, it is mostly a matter or re-packaging rather than re-coding anything...

Help with creating a new Macedonian pack

I'd really like to make a language pack but I don't know anything about Android code.
Do you think I'll manage to make it on my own and are there any tutorials that are straight forward for this type of thing? Any resources I could use to make it easier for me?

Turkish Language

Hello,
As there is no Turkish language pack for ASK, i made one somehow. There is this problem;

Turkish has 2 "i" letter, with a dot[i] and without it[ı]. When we create a layout with these and try to write in capitals, both letter becomes [I]. This is the default capital for [i] in English but in Turkish [i] becomes [İ] and [ı] becomes [I].

Here is a Wikipedia webpage about the problem:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_dotted_and_dotless_I

So what I am asking is: Is there a way to change the capitals for a layout (I could not find any) or how can we avoid this?

Spanish Dvorak layout: Wrong default accents

The ASK Spanish Dvorak layout defaults to grave accents (`) when holding down "a", "e" and "o" keys, and they're never used in spanish language. It defaults to diaeresis (¨) too when holding down "u" (used in some cases). And it defaults to "ī" (i with macron) when "i" key is held down, symbol that isn't used in spanish language at all.

The acute mark (´) is the most used accent in spanish language and it would be nice if it's the default choice when holding down every vowel key. It's annoying when you're typing fast because it slows you down to having always to choose the right accent manually every time you need to put an accented vowel.

Source for german language pack?

Is the sourcecode for the German language pack available somewhere?
I found the apk here and in the Playstore, but can't find the sourcecode. I would love to have it in f-droid, but I think therefor the sourcecode is needed.

Keyboard settings on the language pack level

It would be very useful when ASK could provide specific settings on the LanguagePack level.
For example in my keyboard there is one layout which could simply be modified:

  • swap y and z
  • enable/disable multitap
  • enable/disable popup
  • enable/disable physical mapping

Note: There was the specific feature request on G+ about preservation of QWERTY/Z selection on Latin keyboards.

Shift missing in URL mode

The shift button is missing when typing urls, which is rarely useful, but sometimes necessary. E.g. I had to switch to another keyboard to type this github url :)

Icelandic Language Pack

The frequencies are not correct, I will try to update that at a later date.
