defaultbrowser's Issues

Demo video could be clearer

There's a lot happening in the video and it assumes a lot of prior knowledge about how various things work.

There's also a lot of things in there that are not relevant to the app, a lot of window switching, command typing etc.

I think a more focussed demo video with captions describing what is going on would be better.

Local html files can't be opened

However I was hoping Default Browser will work and replace Browser Fairy for me. I am using Chromium, Firefox Beta and Safari. However somehow I am getting this.

Removing Parallels for Mac Applications results in Unknown Applications in DefaultBrowser

Removing Parallels for Mac Applications results in Unknown Applications in DefaultBrowser

Upon starting DefaultBrowser and trying to blacklist SnagIt I found references to a load of old Parallels applications presumably identifying themselves as browsers.
I removed the app links from under ~/Applications\ (Parallels)/Windows\ Applications and rebooted, but now they still appear in DefaultBrowser as Unknown Application placeholders.

Is there an option to explicitly pick a browser every time?

Found this app via this post!

I've long sought the option to have links open in different browsers on the mac. I use different browsers for different reasons, and so for any given link I know which browser I want to use, and I normally end up copying and pasting.

Is there an option that would show me a list of browsers for each link clicked and let me choose one manually every time?

Block list is ignored

Could be related to #22

Problem

  • I have certain apps blocked but this list is not honoured

Screen shot 2022-12-06 at 14 00 35

Expected

  • they should not show in the previous browsers list of Default Browser

Actual

  • they have begun appearing in the previous browsers list of Default Browser

  • Default Browser 1.3.1
  • macOS 12.6.1 (21G217)

Apple silicon support?

I just upgraded to an M1 MacBook Pro, and macOS is telling me that Default Browser is an Intel-only app. I confirmed this by downloading the latest version from the Mac App Store.

Any chance of a Universal build?

Thanks

Block list items are sometime not initially highlighted

Since recently block list seems broken?

Links are opening in an app I have blocked (Hammerspoon) or in Default Browser itself.

I was using an old build, so installed 1.3.1 from Mac App Store but block list changes are not saved at all.

Scriptable?

It would be awesome if this app worked with Shortcuts, AppleScript, or CLI!

Support for local .html files launched from Finder

What I did

  • double click local .html file in Finder

Expected

  • Default Browser should open local file in most recent browser, using file:// url
  • same behaviour as when you have a proper browser set as default

Actual

  • error

Blocked browsers still show in list

I have the browser list showing as:

  1. Microsoft Edge (my default)
  2. Chrome.
  3. iTerm2

I've selected iTerm2 in the blocklist, but it still appears in list, I can't see a way to have Firefox (installed) in the list.

Dark mode support - invert browser icons

I expect this won't quite look right on dark mode, since the app icons will be inverted in the menu bar. I need to produce alternate versions of the icon image sets and invert the app icon, then conditionally use them if running in dark mode.

Doesn't seem to be working

Hi, I just installed from the App store. It asked about setting it as my default browser and I accepted, but now nothing is happening. I can't see the menubar icon, it isn't set as my default browser (and doesn't show in that list either) in system preferences and launching the app doesn't seem to do anything. Please help!

I'm on macOS 11.5.2

Thanks,
Rob

Last previously used browser (aka `firstRunningBrowser`) not being respected

Reproduction:

  1. Set the primary browser to Brave.
  2. Ensure that explicit browser is off.
  3. Ensure that use primary browser is off.
  4. Have two running browsers: Chrome and Brave
  5. Make Chrome the active window (which should make it the firstRunningBrowser)
  6. Click on url more outside of Chrome and Brave.

Expected:

  1. The url should have been opened in Chrome as it was the last previously used browser.

Actual:

  1. The url will be opened in the primary browser, Brave.

No longer shows up in default browser list

DefaultBrowser seemed to be working fine on macOS Ventura, but now it no longer seems to be settable within the system-wide default browser option. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but no luck. Any advice?

Awesome app, by the way! ๐Ÿ’ฏ
