digital-garden-hugo-theme's Issues

Adding i18n possibilities

Currently, this team is only available in English.
It should be possible to translate it more easily.

Difficulty seeing text on the search bar in dark mode.

problem

In my environment, when using dark mode, the text color becomes white and assimilates with the background color.
The demo site also confirmed that when searching in dark mode, the text turns white and is difficult to read.

countermeasure

As a countermeasure, it may be a good idea to add a class for dark mode to the input tag class in "layouts/partials/search.html".
In this case, I used 'dark:bg-slate-800' as it is used in the background color.

{{ if .Site.Params.enableSearch }}
<label class="mb-2 block px-2">
  <span></span>
  <input type="text" placeholder="Search articles" class="searchInput dark:bg-slate-800 bg-white rounded px-2 py-1 w-full border" />
</label>
<script>
  const searchElt = document.querySelector('.searchInput')
  if (searchElt) {
    searchElt.addEventListener('input', evt => {
      const value = evt.target.value || '';

      const articles = document.querySelectorAll('.article')
      if (!value) {
        articles.forEach(article => article.classList.remove('hidden'))
      } else {
        articles.forEach(article => article.classList.add('hidden'))
        Array.from(articles).filter(article => {
          const title = article.querySelector('h3')
          if (!title) return false;

          return title.textContent.toLowerCase().includes(value.toLowerCase())
        }).forEach(article => article.classList.remove('hidden'))
      }
    })
  }
</script>
{{ end }}

Style in hugo shortcode not rendering

Hi.
I am trying to use shortcode to insert my custom components.
It all works fine but style is not getting applied for some reason. The tailwind code is not getting rendered.

layouts/shortcodes/button.html

<link rel="stylesheet" href="{{ "/css/main.css" | absURL}}" />

<a href="#_" class="relative px-6 py-3 font-bold text-black group">
    <span class="absolute inset-0 w-full h-full transition duration-300 ease-out transform -translate-x-2 -translate-y-2 bg-red-300 group-hover:translate-x-0 group-hover:translate-y-0"></span>
    <span class="absolute inset-0 w-full h-full border-4 border-black"></span>
    <span class="relative">Button Text</span>

I am not sure why the CSS is not being applied to shortcodes. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Sincere request

Please tell me, will this theme be open source if you use it now? I like it very much

Update newsletter widget

Revue has announced it will be shutting down at some point in Jan 2023, so it won't be possible to use the existing newsletter widget

Are there any plans to add support for other newsletter platforms such as substack, ghost.org or buttondown?

Articles mobile view cutoff

Just noticed after posting my second article using the theme that the article is cut off and doesn't adjust to the native device screen size

Checked the demo website and also noticed this issue with several articles (1. Theme Installation, 2. Structure and 7. Metatags)

For some reason this seems to only be an issue with some articles and not all of them

Device: iPhone 14 Pro Max
Browser: Safari

I've also attached some screenshots of the issue from the demo site

Security Issues while using Digital Garden

Hello,
I installed the theme not as a submodules but by copying it in the hugo theme folder (after forking it):

git clone https://github.com/apvarun/digital-garden-hugo-theme.git
cd digital-garden-hugo-theme/** mysite/themes/digitalgarden/

While pushing this to my GitHub repository, this raised two securities alerts:

Capture d’écran 2022-07-22 à 11 58 37

Mobile view

For some reason in mobile when zoom in and zoom out it has a bug.

image

stretched sidebar

After the latest code fix to correct #27, a new issue was introduced that caused the sidebar to stretch across the page. The sidebar width also differs between the articles page and all other pages.

I've attempted to fix this myself on my own branch here but I'm getting mixed results (I'm not good at CSS 😅 )

Here is what I see without any of my modifications after updating the theme submodule 👇

Any chance you know how to fix this @apvarun?

Changing the alignment in the portfolio page

I want to change the vertical alignment of the column in the portfolio page to be all baseline.

I tried adding (Items-end) in this part of the code but it did not work.

This in the list.html file
"div class="space-y-2.5 grid grid-cols-1 lg:grid-cols-2 gap-2 lg:gap-4 items-end" >
{{ range $index, $page := .Data.Pages -}}"

Please help me to resolve this.

Parse failed: template

Hello,
I followed your instructions provided there:
https://digital-garden-hugo-theme.vercel.app/articles/installation/

but when i run npm run dev i get this error:

> [email protected] dev
> hugo serve

Error: add site dependencies: load resources: loading templates: "/home/tadas/hugo/intranet/themes/digitalgarden/layouts/_default/_markup/render-link.html:1:1": parse failed: template: _default/_markup/render-link.html:1: unclosed action

How could i solve this?

Thanks

Can't manage to make this beautiful theme work...

Hi there, I'm trying to use your digitalgarden theme but I can't manage to make it work online (it works locally). Could there be an incompatibility issue between the theme and the Hugo version I run on my computer (which is supposed to be the latest) ?

Also, Hugo seems to be struggling when comes the time to find the module itself..

Any help is welcome. Your theme really is good looking, I'm hoping on using it...

Thanks,
Romain

Rendered site has incomplete/broken layout

Hi! Based on the demo I saw I liked this theme a lot and gave it a try, but couldn't make it work. Here is what I tried to use exactly what's in the example site:

mkdir hugo-test
cd hugo-test/
hugo new site mysite
cd mysite
git clone https://github.com/apvarun/digital-garden-hugo-theme.git themes/digitalgarden
cp -r themes/digitalgarden/exampleSite/* .
cp themes/digitalgarden/package* .
nvm use 16.12.0
npm install
npm i -g postcss-cli
npm run build
npm run dev

The result looks like this both in Firefox and Chrome:

grafik

I'm doing this on MacOS with hugo v0.101.0 and NodeJS version 16.12.0. Any idea what could be the problem?

How to change favicon logo?

Hello,
I try to change the site's favicon logo, so I replaced the favicon.ico under folder theme/static with my logo file, which also named favicon.ico.
but it still shows original logo on the site.

Cannot add more than 15 items into my portfolio

Hi there,

I have attempted to add more than 15 items into the portfolio, as I'm using this theme for a newsletter, but it does not work as expected. I've been trying to figure out where in the source code is this limitation imposed, but I cannot find it.

Mind helping?

Thank you

Deploy with --bind=0.0.0.0

I'm trying to deploy locally within a closed domain network and having some trouble locating main.css. Network inspection shows the request to http://localhost:1313/css/main.css. I am able to reach the right main.css via http://ot-dev.senstar-stellar.local/css/main.css.

Everything works as expected on the local device.

actions taken:

  1. package.json line 9 changed to;
    "dev": "hugo serve --bind=0.0.0.0",
  2. config.toml line 1 changed to;
    baseURL = 'http://ot-dev.senstar-stellar.local'
    url accessable from another device on network

Issue

Error: add site dependencies: load resources: loading templates: "/home/om/website/MySite/themes/digitalgarden/layouts/_default/_markup/render-link.html:1:1": parse failed: template: _default/_markup/render-link.html:1: unclosed action

CSS file is missing

Hello!

main.css is missing. It's in the .gitignore file. Is that voluntary?

Thanks!

Issue with deployment

I tried using the template and followed the instructions given. Then, I chose Netlify as the service provider to deploy the site. Locally, it works great. But, when I deploy it, the main.css file is not available for some reason.

Can you guide me on some ways to troubleshoot this error?

Thanks,
Lalith

Update social-menu.md to mention Mastodon is also supported

After messing around with the social menu a bit I found that there was already a mastodonIcon file within the theme.
It appears to already be supported by the theme but there is no mention of it being supported on the social-menu.md article

It might be worth adding this, given Mastodon has recently become a bit more popular

Install as hugo module?

Hey, I like this theme quite a lot, but suggested way of installation and running is quite an annoyance. Aren't you thinking about supporting installation as a hugo module? For example Blowfish theme (with tailwind as well) works as a module just fine, whilst Digital Garden looses all styles.
