flipdot_5x7's Introduction

FlipDot 5x7-Controller

Adafruit GFX based Library for 5x7 FlipDot breakout board which can be purchased at HannIO.

Wiring

Note the silkscreen error on some PCBs. Correct pinout is 12V|12V|GND|SDA|SCL|GND|LAT|5V|OUT For soldering instructions and further connection hints including daisychaining see connection diagram.

With Arduino on PCB (deprecated)

Solder the Arduino with the USB-Jack to the outside. Use the Graphic-Test sketch to test your PCB, connect 12V. For connecting more than one PCB, flash the Slave-Sketch to the other Arduinos. Then jumper SDA, SCL, 12V and GND.

With 595-ShiftRegisters (new version)

Flash ShiftRegister from examples to your Arduino, instructions are in sketch.

flipdot_5x7's Issues

Question about Usb port

Hello,
I've got a question about the controller and how to power my system.
If i check my controller i see a space for what seems to be a barrel power connector. But on the pcb it says usb.
I guess it make more sense to be barrel power connector since the flipdot need 12v but I lack documentation/knowledge and doesn't wanna make a mistake.

Can you confirm it or guide me to a component suitable for the controller ?

Issue with serial on esp8266

I am using a nodemcu to write to the display modules.
While programming, I noticed serial.print statements do not work at all or just sometimes unreliably. That behavior is only there if the FlipDot_5x7 library is included.
I noticed a bunch of #ifdef ESP8266 in the library, so it should be optimized for it.
Is that behavior expected?

New schematic

Any chance of sharing the shift register schematic?

Thank you 🙏
