Running AAC on two multi-part .aa files it stops unexpectedly during the conversion. I've attached the screenshot of AAC with the popup error message along with the -Log=3 log file.

I get a "Windows protected your PC" dialogue box alert when I attempt to install AAX Audio Converter. The box says further, "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk."

Why does this happen? I have not seen this before, and I install a lot of software.

after converting an audible .aax file (chapter names are visible in Audible app), I end up without chapter names (just a number or "chapter X", depending on whats setup). I convert to mp4 and use foobar2000 as player, which shows each chapter as individual track, so the chapter marks are still intact I assume.

However, I'am not too familiar with the AAX-format, it might also be the case that the information is simply missing from the AAX file.

For example, ffprobe shows the following when used with -show_chapters

Now the Audible app has the correct chapter names and they have to come from some location.

My computer running Windows 7 cannot install the Audible UWP app, and AudibleManager refuses to activate. Where can I find my Audible account's 8-digit code, required to run this converter? Is it on the website cookies or where?

It would be nice, if the program could be set to encode variable bitrate (VBR) MP3s, rather than CBR.

VBR can be up to half the size of a corresponding cbr file/audioook. Plus, VBR is widely supported.

For audiobooks, I'd use V5, which will result in ~130kbps average bitrate, which is more than enough for spoken language.

When executing convert, below exception occurs.

In Filescache sind 13 Content Meta Dateien, es sind also offensichtlich alle Dateien da In der Audible App werden auch durchgängig Kapitelnamen angezeigt.

Ich hab mit jetzt im nächsten Schritt die metadatei zum zweiten Teil von Jahre des Jägers angesehen und nahm an, da stünden vielleicht einfach keine Kapitelnamen drin.

Also so wie ich die Sache sehe , sind entweder irgendwelche Fehler in den Metadateien, oder der AAX Audioconverter kriegt es jenseits von 5 Teilen aus irgendeinem Grund nicht hin die Kaptielnamen korrekt auszulesen.

bei den beiden Titeln haben wir es ja mit 7 bzw 6 Teilen zu tun.

Schau es dir an, vielleicht kriegst du das Mysterium ja gelöst.

When I try to convert all of these .aax files at once, it will prioritize 1, 10 and 11 first ahead of 2-9. This leads to wrong ordering of this particular book

Kapittelnamenproblem ist behoben, aber er bricht jetzt grundsätzlich das
Transkodieren mit der Meldung 0 Dateien konvertiert ab. Ich habe ganz
normal Auto Upgedatet, sonst nix verändert.

As a user, I would like to be able to split the output into multiple files at approximate intervals AND at the start of a new chapter, while also putting all files into the same directory.

My suggestion for making this an option in the User Interface is to add an option to the Chapter folders name prefix, called <No chapter folders>. (Though in that case it might be better to rename that optiongroup to Chapter folders).

Furthermore I want to thank you for this software. As someone who has done a fair bit of conversion of media myself, I can appreciate all the effort that went into this, and the trouble that it saves regular users.

I can't get this file to work. I either get prompts that ffmpeg stopped working or I get error operation abort.

My account is through audible.ca not audible.com. The audible software only works with audible.com which doesn't have any of my purchases (it's an empty account). How do I get my activation code without using the audible app since the account on .com is a dud?

In my use case, I'd like the option to have BOTH track number and chapter name. When importing audiobooks to podcast addict it does not recognize track number and sorts by file/track/etc. name. This means I might see intro last, subsections out of order, etc. I could prevent this if my files/tags preceeded named chapters with track numbering. When selecting "Track numbering pattern" () I see no change in the output. I also see no option for just -

I would like to have track number preceed chapter name so that the books can sort alphabetically and be chronologically correct for import into some applications.

Would it be possible to build this for, say, .NET 4.5?

I just noticed in my output folder that book titles that contain a dot end just before the dot. So, for example, I have "The Collected Works of Arthur C" instead of "The Collected Works of Arthur C. Clarke".

Looking deeper, I see that titles that should end with "(unabridged)" are missing that word and the parenthesis and the one title I have that contains a colon ends just before the colon. I kinda understand that one, since a colon is an illegal file name character, but I would prefer it to be replaced with a dash (or some other legal character.)

Again, I know this is a new work and has only recently been released, I'm "beating it up" and reporting what I find in the hope that this changes from a really good tool into a GREAT tool!

Is there a way to get the series / book number in series, i know this info is available in places. Partially in title maybe in extra metadata from the windows 10 audible download.

This audiobook differs from others in that it has two narrators listed.

EDIT: Looks like the issue is the narrator tag, because in the "Naming" section of the program, if I set "Add Narrator" to "No", the exception is not thrown. The audiobook is converted without issues.

EDIT 2: Having further trouble with a second audiobook. But this one has one narrator. :P

Moving on... what they do have in common is that both have more than one authors. They throw the exact same exception. And if I set "Add Narrator" to "No", both audiobooks get converted correctly.

Any hopes that a version for macOS will happen?

How do I get individual files of a given book to be named 01 - xxx, 02 - xxx, and so on? In file explorer, there is a column named "#", which has those numbers. How do I get those to be a the start of the actual file names?

Bei 'Eine Datei pro AAX' hat die Zieldatei nur max. 255 Kapitel auch wenn die Orginal-AAX-Datei mehr hat. Das letzte Kapitel ist von der Länge her dann die Zusammenfassung der Kapitel 255-Ende.
Anbei die Kapitel-Info erzeugt mit FFmpeg -i.

I have two big Audiobooks, one is 951MB the other one is 1149MB, both display 00:00:00 duration. Thank you for this software, is probably the best free aax converter!

Would it be possible to add support for multiple activation codes? I run multiple accounts I cycle through to take full advantage of the free trial months and other promotions. I have approx. 8 codes. Two accounts active at a time.

Would a possibility for this to work be to just brute force the provided activation codes against the AAX file until one is successful? Perhaps limit the number of codes allowable in the app to ~10 so it can help out people using this program against the own Audible library for legitimate purposes.

If you try to sort books by size 100 is before 200 but also 20 or 2.

wäre es möglich ein Feature hinzufügen, dass die .axx-Dateinamen auf Wunsch umbennent. Z.B. nach dem Muster: "Autor - Buch - Stück", wie es für die .m4b-Dateinamen bereits vorhanden ist.

Vielleicht auch mit der Option die .axx und .json-Datei in ein Wunschverzeichnis zu kopieren nachdem die .m4b erstellt wurde.

Zum Hintergrund: Wenn man viele Hörbücher besitzt wird der Ordner mit den .axx-Dateien sehr unübersichlich, vorallem da der Windows Explorer die Metadaten nicht auslesen kann. Eindeutige Namen und nach Autor sortierte Dateien, würde den Ordner viel überischtlicher machen.

Podcasts werden nach Folgennr. sortiert, sodass alle Podcasts vermischt sind. Ich würde z.B gerne alle Folgen eines Podcasts auf mein Smartphone kopieren und vorher einen anderen Podcast löschen. Mit eigenständigen Ordnern für Podcasts würde das sehr viel schneller gehen.

I'm converting several of my audiobooks to .m4b at I've noticed that the chapter titles are missing from the later chapters in the book. All of the chapter titles are present in the metadata, but when using ffprobe after conversion you can see missing titles. I've attached a log file (level 4) and the output of ffprobe. I've tried this with "Verify and adjust chapter marks" set to "No" and "In all conversion modes" with the same result.

umgewandelt wird.

Ich habe dieses händisch mal für 'BECOMING: Meine Geschichte' probiert und die Kapitel werden in meinem SamrtAudioBook-Player richtig angezeigt.

Es ist nur eine Idee. Einige Tags (Kommentar und Titelbild z.B.) fehlen noch in der fertigen Datei.

There is a problem using Windows when directory names are ending with a dot. You cannot access, rename or delete those directories in Windows.

This happens when the author is like "div." or something else.

Removing such a directory just works with a little workaround:
rd /s "\\?\d:\audio\directorywithdotatend."

This problem is weird. Have been testing this across the official Audible players (Android, Windows 10, browser) all day.

The book is "A Game of Thrones" (so, involved in issue #9), the chapter is 45/73. Initially, I thought it was a problem with Audible itself, since I found this post in reddit with this exact problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/audible/comments/5afou8/missing_chapter_within_a_game_of_thrones/

But after resetting most applications and re-downloading the file (only got +20KB of difference in size compared to the one I downloaded 2 years ago, for some reason), the chapter shows up in the players (Android, Win10).

Still, even with this new file, and knowing it contains the chapter in question, it does not get extracted by AAC.

I've tested it with the other books in the series (sans ADWD, which I haven't re-downloaded), and they all get processed correctly by AAC. It must be a problem in this specific file, which only Audible can somehow overlook. Table of contents? Chapter delimiter? I wish I understood a little better to help out.

As mentioned in a prior Gitter post, I have over 1000 titles in my library and installed AAX Audio Converter 1.15.3.0 (AAC) and have encountered a problem when attempting to load AAC with my files (no conversion attempted as yet.) it seems to load all my .aax files fine but runs afoul with .aa files while attempting to load them. The link above is to a series of images that should help in explaining the problem. So, when I attempted to load them en masse, I received the error popup periodically (a dozen times or so) as it was loading them. However, it continued on and finally loaded the rest. The error message hadn’t listed the offending file names so I performed a series of chunk loads until I was able to isolate one chuck that manifested the error. After whittling it down I just loaded 3 to make it easier to identify the problem. Image 1 is the Windows File Manage where I’ve selected the 3 files to DnD onto AAC, image 2 is the AAC error message that occurs when loading and image 3 is AAC after selecting OK to close the error message. Note that AAC did load 2 of the 3 fine but found issue with the 3rd. I should mention that this also occurs if I just load the one offending file. However, the file seems to play fine within Media Player or Audible Manager. Even so, since AAC only flags a dozen or so .aa files, it very well may be something strange about just those. If so, I wouldn’t mind re-downloading them in .aax format (since Audible no longer support Format 4(.aa) format but attempt to isolate which ones are causing the error with over 1000 titles would be error-prone and tedious. So, would you be able to list the .aa file name in the error popups so that I could easily know which titles to re-download?

I've attached the log file as requested but only included the error from the one I initially reported to keep it length more manageable. I can also run AAC on my entire .aa titles if you'd prefer. I was also pleased to see that the log file included the name of the offending .aa file so wouldn't mind re-downloading the offending title in .aax format if you prefer. I'll await further instructions.

When I convert files with a ":" in them, the first part and the second part are flipped.
E.g., George Lucas: A Life
On the preview screen, it shows;
Source - George Lucas: A Life
Tag - A Life: George Lucas
File - A LIfe: George Lucas

Is there a setting that will prevent it from flipping? Or, only use the part before the ":" as the file name?

When making a single MP3 from an AAX file, I'd like to be able to remove the " - " from the "File naming pattern" and the "Title tag naming pattern"

If there's only one track, having the track number is redundant and it would make importing my audio files into PLEX cleaner.

I have purchased a book and downloaded it with audible app.
I got 4 fuge files and started with the first big file.

AaxAudioConverter tooks its time and worked fine resulting in a folder 1 with nearly 50 mp3 files in right order

So I went back and marked the other 3 huge files and started the conversion.
Then a warning appeared that a book of the author already exists and it offered cancel or overwrite if I remember correctly.
I knew that I had not chosen the first file to convert again that could result in a loss of previous files but here it comes:
At least folders inside the authors folder were SIMPLY DELETED, not overwritten !

My files were stored in \Author A\1 folder and when I started the conversion of part 2 to 4 the next moment my already renamed and retagged files inside folder 1 were gone.

No folder "1" anymore.

It felt like something was wrong - in my opinion cause the deletion of already converted files should not have happened that way if I did not select the first source file again.

When transcoded I also used mp3tag to get the right titles for each mp3 cause that is important for most of us. I am on 1.4 downloaded today and I guess the i3 will run 1 process on each core cause I can see 4 different track numbers in progress.

In order to avoid a messy conversation, I created this separate issue.

This one is far less serious, as the audiobook is converted without exceptions thrown or anything missing.

However, when the title has an "&", the title is trimmed.

Example:

Original title: Fire & Blood

Outputs: Fire

Fire is used in the book's folder, chapter/track names ("Chapter # - Fire.xyz"), and "Fire" in each track's album tag.

I cannot install any of the programs that contain the audible activation code.

Problem/Scope

I've been backing up/converting my entire collection of of 1528 books.

Of that I've had some conversion errors on some 215 audiobooks which rendered 182 of them unplayable in some players but usable in others and the remaining 33 of them are completely unplayable.

Troubleshooting Attempted

• Redownloaded source AAX files - no change

• All files individually tested so far have worked properly when converted directly to MP3 instead.

  Suggests to me that this is almost certainly entirely a problem with corrupted metadata

• Attempted to strip metadata using ffmpeg manually in order to manually add chapters later.

  ffmpeg threw errors and was unable to process the m4b files

For the files which will play in some players and not others I've observed them to have a second chapter menu listing which is full of garbage timecode values, with chapter names being substrings of the proper chapter names for titles and in some cases erroneous garbage characters.

For the totally unplayable ones what I see in mediainfo is different, it doesn't seem to see any audio stream at all.

Right now the PrivilegesRequired=admin in the Inno configuration means the installer requests administrative privilages even when configured for unprivilaged paths or executed with RunAsInvoker

Suggestion:

According to the Inno Installer documentation this could be as simple as adding:

PrivilegesRequiredOverridesAllowed=commandline dialog to the [Setup] block in the .iss file. Which would allow users to specify the /CURRENTUSER flag to run the installer in a nonprivilaged mode

P.S. I would have raised a PR but I was unable to replicate your build enviroment, so I cannot promise the change is painless :)

First, I realize this is a brand new tool. Since it is an EXCELLENT tool, I'm pointing out an issue I had with the very first book I tried to convert (using 15 minute chapters [I wish I could set them to 30 min]). AaxAudioConverter works perfectly for most books and until the long path issue is addressed (or I learn C# and address it myself) I will continue to use older, much more difficult tools for the few exceptions. So, here's the issue:

I have a couple SciFi anthologies that apparently list ALL authors. This causes AAXAudioConverter to attempt to create a path that exceeds the default system limit. I got the project and attempted (still am attempting) to get the solution described at https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/jeremykuhne/2016/07/30/net-4-6-2-and-long-paths-on-windows-10/ to work. (It says it applies to 4.6.2 and later.)

However, this is the first time I have ever seen a C# project, so my learning curve is steep.

Hopefully, the program can either be built to correctly support the ridiculously long names caused by what is found in the AAX files, or it can offer an option to let us change the name either before we start conversion or at least when the path-too-long error is detected.

Hi, this seems like a great free app! I'm unable to use it at the moment, however. The only app I saw for download on PC was "AudibleSync." I downloaded it and logged in, can see and download my audio books, but the AAX Audio Converter still has the "Audible activation code" popup, meaning it hasn't found the activation code automatically.

What should I do? I have tried restarting both programs.

Deine Ansonsten grandiose Software produziert dort neuerdings den Fehler ,dass die Kapitel alle CHO heißen Hat wohl irgendwas was mit M4b zu tun,so verstehe ich jedenfalls dass was mir der Entwickler des Listen Audiobook Player geschrieben hat.

Der Fehler passiert bei frisch mit der neusten Version umgewandelten Büchern.

Komischerweise finde ich gerade nicht die Option dir einen File zu schicken.

What is happening is that these files were not tagged correctly with embedded chapters. Mp3 files can embedded multiple chapter information which my app will use, similar to an m4b file. Here in the file you sent me the id3 title tag is "Kapitel 1", however, it has a single embedded chapter with the title "ch0". From your original screenshot it seems that all of your audio files have a single embedded chapter named "ch0".
I suppose what I can do is ignore it if there is only one embedded chapter and assume it is only correct when there are at least two chapters.

Steps taken:
Set up Windows 10 virtual machine.
Downloaded and installed Audible win 10 app via MS Store.
Signed in to audible app.
Downloaded and installed AAX Audio Converter.
When loading, I was not prompted to enter activation code.
Converted track (Source of downloaded audible file was not downloaded via Win 10 app, but via their site on another PC)

I initially thought that maybe by not downloading the audio book from the app may have cause some issue, so I tried downloading a title via the Win 10 app and converted that. Same effect: no sound.

Then I thought that since there was an update, that I should check that too.

I updated to 1.15.2 and tried again; same thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
