Error retrieving CA roots from Consul

Trying to run this using helm deployment. I get the following error:

Error retrieving CA roots from Consul: err="Get "https://consul-server:8501/v1/agent/connect/ca/roots": x509: certificate signed by unknown authority

I assumed it was because it was not able to get the CA certificate for consul so for the helm value consul.server.caCert I added the consul ca cert value from the corresponding consul secret.

The secret was in the standard format:

-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
MIIE...           ....24Tyw=
-----END CERTIFICATE-----

but then running again I get the following error:

Error initializing Consul client: Error loading CA File: Couldn't parse PEM in: /config/server.pem

Do you have any ideas what's going wrong?
